Can this be used on a bamboo cutting board stained w/unicorn spit? instructions for the unicorn spit  said use general finish butcher block oil.

Yes, walruses and unicorns play well together (or so I hear!) Walrus Oil is a high-quality butcher block oil.

Question 2

Can this be used on a butcher block countertop and sealed with polyurethane after drying?

Accepted Answer

I would recommend the Walrus Oil furniture finish (curing oil with FDA approved ingredients), or Waterlox. I would not finish a butcher block countertop with polyurethane. It is not food safe and is just plastic. Additionally, if you want to touch up any of the surface after a few years, you have to sand it all the way down to bare wood. With the other choices you can lightly sand just a part of it and refinish with either of those products I listed.

is it food grade..safe if it comes on to the food Im chopping? After oiling do we  need to pat , towel or air dry? do we apply with handsMany thanks,?

Yes food safe. Ok for food contact. 
I applied to a new untreated butcher block top with plastic gloves on, and just used clean cotton rag to apply. 
Applied 4 coats over 5 days. (Recommendation is to allow 24 hrs between each application)
No patting after applying, just air dry. 
I did wipe with a paper towel after 5th coat, but no residue on towel. 
Turned out very nice!!
Before starting, I checked YouTube for treating new butcher block wood. That was helpful.

Question 4

Finishing a soft maple countertop and being out the natural colors and variation of the maple while protecting the surface. Walrus Oil or furniture?

If this is a primary raw food contact/cutting area (i.e. - cutting board) the the Walrus Oil is fine. If this a general-use countertop I strongly suggest you consider "Waterlox 5284 Sealant". Search the product here on Amazon for more info and on You-Tube for application suggestions. It isn't the cheapest, but it is absolutely incredible for long-lasting countertops, furniture, floors, etc. 
*There are a number of variations, but Waterlox 5284 Sealant is what you need for countertops.
