Don't 3/4" Weldon shank tools fit into a 3/4" R8 collet directly?** A: A R8 shank has a tapper and straight shank held in a mill with a draw bar. Weldon tools typically have a 3/4" dia straight shank and the tool is held in place with one to two set screws that contact a machined flat on the shank of the Weldon tool to secure it into the adapter. If you look at the tool above you will see the tapper and straight shank of the tool, Weldon's have no tapper. **Q: can the R8 taper just be cut down to a 1/2" diameter and shortened to fit the 1/2 " chuck on my drill press** A: R8 have a inside hole for draw rod which 7/16, so not much metal left to clamp to, cut it off and screw a bolt in place of turning it down, there a some arbors on line for drill press.
