Review: Dewalt quality! - It would be great if this was a brushless unit, but knowing it was not didn’t stop me from purchasing. These buffers are great for speed control as well as ducting that minimizes the chances of the motor intake air from being blocked or compromised. Build quality is best in class for industrial rated buffers and will outperform lower priced units. Higher upfront costs for considerably better durability and reliability.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: I have this machine...what do i need to do to learn how to correct paint to a great finish?**
A: Go to the junk yard and buy several panels. Use the machine for about 200 hours. (No, I'm not kidding). THEN, you can use it on an actual car. Not saying that you can't use it before then without screwing something up bad, but don't come near my car with it! Seriously, watching Youtube and all is great but do not use this without some practice on things that won't matter if you screw up. Also, learn the difference between things you do with this that you can fix (like with a random orbital) and things you do that you can't fix.

**Q: will a 4 inch pad be compatible?**
A: Can, I use a 5 inch. I usually buy DeWalt products but this one I don't really recommend. I would go for the Makita. This polishe has a problem with 800 then to 600. It's very troublesome with product flying.

**Q: Hi, what thread does this machine have?**
A: Spindle thread is 5/8"-11

**Q: Can this burn the paint like typical buffers?**
A: The only way it will burn the paint is if the operator doesn't know how to properly use this tool. Try a Rupes or Flex DA if that is what you are concerned about. Thanks

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Excellent tool with a few considerations
*by L***A on 2 October 2012*

Bought this to polish our two cars - one is a traditional slick black paint and is 4 years old - the finish had lots of fine scratching from automatic car washing (no, I'm not the type to hand wash...I know it's better, but I just don't have the time). The other car is 6 months old and has a nice factory finish and I wanted to keep it bright and shiny. So far, this tool has done well. My brief observations are: The tool is heavy duty - it runs continuously with no problem and can handle reasonably heavy loads. I wouldn't quite call it commercial grade but it is very close to it. The average pro working on cars will unlikely tap the tool's potential. The tool does heat up after continuous use - it doesn't blow hot air from the cooling fan on the user, but there are a couple of metal spots on the body of the tool that get hot - the handles are fine but if you grab the body of the tool to set it down or pick it up, you won't get burned but it will get your attention. The soft start feature is nice, but there is one quirk: Pulling the trigger too rapidly causes the tool to overshoot the targeted RPM. When the spindle is just starting, the constant RPM feature appears to adjust input voltage or current to maintain the RPM based on the user's input into the trigger. Pull the trigger a little too fast and the tool ramps up the power rather fast - if the tool isn't under load, the spindle will spin too fast and gradually settle into the target RPM. This isn't a big deal as any reasonable user will find the modulation perfect for polishing - but if your finger slips or you accidentally goose the trigger while using it, the tool will respond with a big jump in power. That can catch you off guard a little if you don't anticipate it. The tool has some logic in it - the trigger is more "fly by wire" than a traditional trigger. That's a good thing, but you have to re-train yourself a little to get the most out of it. The tool is pretty quiet - it operates nice and smooth and at a reasonable sound level. Weight it a tad heavy - if you use it all day long there is a trade-off between weight and the durability of the tool. I think this one is just right for how it is positioned, but the average joe will definitely notice his/her arms if you use it for a few hours and haven't done so before. Not a big deal, but it is worth noting. The power cord is nice and beefy - no worries there. The wool/lint filter for the cooling air intakes is a nice touch. The nose end with the loop-style handle attached is a little tight when polishing around outside mirrors and a few other places, but overall the tool provides good clearances all around. I'm not familiar with similar offerings from Porter Cable, but it looks like there are only a few big names that make a comparable polisher - I wouldn't think you will be displeased with any of them. I have owned a number of DeWalt power tools over the years and this one is on par with the quality you expect from them, if not better.
