No. A 17" laptop is too large for that bag. However, CLC makes a model 1132 that's larger and more capable of accommodating a 15" laptop and tools more safely and securely. I use this model for my low voltage tech work.

will this bag stand straight up with a full load of tools?Can you lay the bag out and access the tools without to much trouble? Thanks

i've noticed it has a little lean forward to it but still stands up. You can't lay the bag completely flat with everything unzipped but the zippers do go all the way to the bottom of the bag so you have a lot of room to grab your tools with out a problem.
