Excellent book on Macro and close-up photography. Goes into detail on equipment and technique which I needed help with. If you enjoy close-up or Macro photography you can't go wrong with this book, well worth the price.

Very interesting book. It doesn't really have to be read cover to cover to get the benefit of the information in there. It can be used as a pretty comprehensive reference manual. Great information in there. I have some experience with macro photography, and I found it very helpful in picking up some new ideas. For a complete beginner, however, some parts of it may be a little daunting. The author does try to make it a guide that anyone can use, and to that end is very successful.

If you are looking for a highly informative book on macro photography, then this book is for you. This book goes over everything I could imagine on this field of photography with an easy and enjoyable reading style. Highly recommend.

An excellent book, full of information and inspiration for anyone interested in macro and close up photography

It is often difficult to write reviews of photography books for a number of reasons, but in the end I have simple criteria I use: Did I learn anything? Was the book interesting and well illustrated? Was it well written and presented? In this case, the answer is "yes" on all three of these items, and this book is definitely deserving of a high rating. I've been a semi-pro photographer for many decades, and have won a number of awards in the nature category. So, I feel I'm not a total neophyte when it comes to this subject. Still, I'm always aware of how much I don't know, and am happy to learn. Most books on macrophotography are way too basic for anyone who's handled a camera for a while, but that's not the case here. That doesn't mean newcomers to macrophotography should be scared, as the introduction to the subject is well-written and gives you lots of guidance about the basics. It's when the book moves beyond basics to some of the tricks of the trade that I got enthralled. There's good illustrations here, with lots of photos of results, as well as guides to accomplishing the same results yourself. It's often been said that a great camera and lens setup can compensate for bad technique, and for tourist shots I would agree to a large degree, but when it comes to macrophotography then great gear is just a tool for a great photography experience. There's some nice advanced subjects here, such as using photosensors, various lighting situations, post-processing, and so on, so even veteran photographers won't get bored. There's a few areas of really advanced photography that I think any photography will enjoy. Throughout the book is well written and illustrated, and it's actually a joy to read, even when you know what the author is trying to convey already. I've got quite a few books on macrophotography on my shelf, and have authored quite a few pieces on the subject myself for magazines, but this is a book I can wholeheartedly recommend for all levels of photography. The area of macrophotography may not interest everyone, but if this is your cup of tea, then this is your book!

This book has been extremely helpful to me as I'm several months in to learning macro photography. It's very detailed. I highly recommend this book to others who want to learn more about macro photography.
