Excellent cuts, great quality!
Lightweight and no power cord! Lasts quite a while on a single battery (4A/h). The only gripe about it is the stupid safety switch can be difficult to use sometimes. I understand why the safety switch is on there, but I wish you could remove it, or make it similar to other dewalt tools where you can lock it in place for continued use. I may end up superglueing mine down. Cuts great and is easy to maneuver in tight places. I cut about 18 bushes (small to medium size) on 1 battery and still had extra battery to do more. Pair this with a leaf blower, and life will be easy. Highly recommend!

Durable lightweight and easy to use
I wasn't too worried about purchasing a DeWalt tool as every DeWalt tool that I have bought this far has exceeded my expectations and works exactly as it should. That being said I was worried as to how good an actual hedge trimmer woodwork being that it is battery-powered and not plug-in model. After using it several times I haven't had one issue yet. It has trim some pretty sick shrubbery and I have even clipped a chain link fence and it did not mess up the blade. It is very lightweight and very easy to use. The length of the trimmer is perfect for trimming a hedge row or for light trimming of other ornamentals. I am happy that it performs well like the rest of the DeWalt tools I have bought. I have heard some stories from folks that have gotten a bad line of DeWalt tools, however this particular trimmer is very good quality and I have had decent battery life when using the trimmer. I would recommend this DeWalt hedge trimmer, it performs very well.

Good electric trimmer…2 downsides though
I bought this to replace two Greenworks trimmers, a 24v and a 40v both of which I’ve had a number of years. The accompanying Greenworks batteries, always pretty weak, have given up. I have several Dewalt 20v tools and batteries, so I went with that. This Dewalt trimmer is stronger than either of the other two trimmers, and trims hedges with ease, partly no doubt because it is new and the blades are their sharpest. The 20v delivers a lot of power for a long period allowing me to trim all my yard bushes with one 4-amp battery. The trimmer is fairly lightweight though final weight will depend upon which size 20v battery you use. Easy for me to handle, same for my spouse. The safety lock (thanks OSHA) is a bit cumbersome but workable, and the unit is quieter than my previous trimmers as well. So what don’t I like? The trimmer blades are 2” shorter than the previous ones, and you notice that small amount immediately. More reaching, more awkward handling with arms stretched out farther are the things immediately noticed. Lastly, the unit does NOT come with a sheath to protect the blades while not in use, and to protect anyone handling the unit. I understand this saves cost but I think this to be a foolish decision, one important enough to downgrade the rating to 4-star for this otherwise 5-star unit. Fortunately, one of blade sheaths from my previous trimmer fits adequately though it is slightly longer. You gotta wonder what bean counter thought this was a good idea, and in doing so undoubtedly got an internal promotion to the detriment of all of the consumers. Good job! Not.

THE HEDGE TRIMMER’S HEDGE TRIMMER...
It’s a jungle out there and the last thing you want is to have a wimpy trimmer do a lousy job after you’ve taken the time and effort to clear the hedge, cut some pampus grass, etc. If you buy this, your troubles are over... I received my DeWalt DCHT820B 20 V Max Hedge Trimmmer Baretool in the mail yesterday fully assembled right out of the box. I used the battery I have been using for my DeWalt chain saw (which truly is a winner and cuts trees all afternoon on one battery) snapped it on the back, put the instructions on the counter (for some late night reading) and headed out to cut the overgrown pampus grass in the backyard. I have been remiss as I left the pampus grass to its own devices for years, becoming big overgrown clumps, matted with leaves, pine straw, sticks, and who knows what else was in there. The trimmer went through it like a fork through pasta. I cut horizontal, verticle and sideways cuts and the trimmer never slowed down or had an issue. I cut down several bunches (or whatever you call them) of pampus grass and the battery never had an issue. I finally took it in to recharge as I gave out before the battery. I don’t know who designed this trimmer or the DeWalt chainsaw, but both of them are keepers. The 10” chainsaw has cut down trees larger than it should and ran through numerous trees, limbs and sectioning what was cut most (if not all) of the afternoon. The same battery works on the trimmer and it takes less than an hour to recharge. Our former saws and trimmers were either gas powered or electric (the trimmer). Now you can forget about trying to get the thing started, the noise, the mess, wearing hearing protectors, or dragging extension cords around. With this trimmer and the chainsaw you just concentrate on getting the job done. I honestly don’t think you can find a better trimmer anywhere!

Awesome hedge trimmer! I chose the 20V instead of the 40V for the lighter weight of the tool and the battery. I needed something even my mom could use since she's the one doing most of the gardening (I take care of the heavy duty stuff). It was super easy to maneuver with and cuts so smoothly and with a 2ah battery is good enough to finish off a small yard full of shrubs with no problem. Build quality is excellent and had no issues with it and I have had it for a year now. The handle is comfortable to hold on to for extended use and a 22" blade is a good length to tackle even the bigger shrubs. If I had to complain about something it would be the plastic sleeve that it came with feels a bit cheap.

This is a great tool. It's the first cordless hedge trimmer I've owned, so I wasn't sure what to expect as far as power and battery life. I picked up a pair of 5 AH batteries on sale from another vendor and this is a great combination. The tool is quite light and fairly well balanced (with the heavier battery) and one battery lasted for about two hours of relatively heavy use (my hedge REALLY needed a trim by the time I got around to ordering this tool). The power was at least on par with the last corded hedge trimmer I had, but that one was pretty cheap. Having two batteries is not quite enough to keep you working non-stop, using one battery while charging the other, but it gave me an excuse to take a break (hey, I'm an office worker now, don't judge me). I've only used the trimmer for a total of about 5 or 6 hours, so I won't comment on durability, but I'm really impressed so far.

I just picked the trimmer up today and I was excited to use it. It worked amazing. I should have bought this years ago. It trimmed my lilacs and also worked great for trimming small tree branches. I also have the Dewalt trimmer and blower which also work great. I am an electrician and I have used Dewalt tools for about 18 years. People always tell me to switch to Milwaukee but I think it's overpriced and does the same job. Dewalt works great!
