I have been told these are excellent floor puzzles with one piece elements. Is there a parent's guide to play?

No parents guide. But some pieces are in the shape of the animals. Very easy for young kids to put together.

Not sure what you mean by genuine. The pieces are nice and thick and sit flat on the floor. Each dinosaur is a separate piece. My 1 1/2 year old took a little while to be able to do it by himself, but at over 3 he can. Edge is irregular shape.

How many pieces does this puzzle have? One review said only 8 pieces? Is this too easy for a 4.5 year old?
