Installed this in our BMW i3's trunk, and it has an excellent light output. I feel confident that the housing of the LED strip will protect it from stuff in our trunk that might hit it, since the LED strip is installed under the parcel shelf, and we transport a lot of toddler gear. The adhesive also seems like it'll stay in place for a long time, as the parcel shelf has a lining that the adhesive seems to stick to very well. The cabling was more than long enough, and I didn't need the fuse or connectors, so I cut them off, since I'm tapping into the existing fused trunk lighting.

I liked this product soo much that I bought 6 total and I'm gonna buy more for all my cars and my family's cars! This is the best car accessory for nighttime! The convenience!!!!! I really like how the kit has everything you need to hook it up! Easy install and direct connect to the battery! I have one under my hood and I connected 5 together in my trunk because I hate shadows in my trunk because I don't want to lose any small screws etc since I am currently working on my trunk for my project car! I definitely recommend this to all car enthusiasts or even just a normal car owner that does need light in the engine bay.. the convenience of hands free not needing to hold a flash light to check your oil or a quick look at your fluid levels etc.. The light goes on automatically once you open the hood and the button is released from the closed position of the hood.. Extra bright and water resistant.. could be waterproof tho I haven't tried it.. also, if you don't need this under your hood, you could still use this led strip for anything you need light for. comes with wires already connected to the led strip so no soldering is necessary.. also has a 3m sticky tape to stick to surfaces.. make sure you clean with alcohol on the areas of dirt and oil before sticking the led strip to surfaces.

PROS * inexpensive * easy to install * plenty of bright LED light to work on the engine bay at night * the LED strip seems to be sealed from the elements OBSERVATIONS * the adhesive strip is suspect and may not hold long term, but that is fixable by adding a new 2-sided industrial adhesive strip RECOMMENDATIONS * be sure to thoroughly clean the intended application area and then wipe down with rubbing alcohol to remove any oil or cleaner residue * add some protective electrical wiring housing to the exposed wire , if any, to help protect it from the elements and from being pinched ( see the left side of my installation near the back of the engine and you'll notice the black corrugated plastic housing I used)

This is exactly what my truck needed. Install was fast and simple, and the light output is amazing. I'm going to end up ordering one for every vehicle I own that doesn't have a light under the hood!

There’s a few issues with this. The biggest are that it is both fused and switched by the ground, which is an engine fire waiting to happen. It means that the positive is always live all the way to the light and it’s always looking for it’s ground, which happens when the hood gets opened and the spring loaded pin makes contact with ground. That’s pretty F’ed up, but for the fuse to be on the ground is worse. If it finds a ground before the fuse then it won’t pop the fuse and at the least of your problems, won’t turn off but at the worst of them, start a fire and it’s bye bye car. This is easily fixed with minimal knowledge and skills by cutting and splicing the fuse over to the positive wire. The wire will still be live but will at least pop the fuse if a short happens. I went one step further and put it on a manual switch, which makes more sense anyways because you’re not gonna always need the light to be on every time you pop the hood All in all, it’s a pretty good light for the price. The double sided tape seems pretty strong, though time will tell. The light itself is pretty bright. In my pic this light is the only one on and it looks like daytime in the engine bay

It's a very bright light. I had it installed in the trunk of my car and it works very well. I removed the original the light in the trunk, and connected this light directly to the trunk light wiring, this way, I did not have to use the switch that is provided.

Works great! Lights up under the hood really well
