About Nurse Dotty Books: Nurse Dotty books aim to alleviate anxiety around being admitted to hospital for children and their families through giving truthful information in a reassuring and friendly manner. They are packed with pictures and references to equipment and procedures presented through a rhyming story with cartoon illustrations. This helps to, in a child friendly manner, introduce and explain some of the experiences they will have during theirs or a family member’s hospital admission. Review: Great for kids - My daughter was on ecmo and my other daughter is 3yrs old. This book is a great way to be able to discuss the procedure and the reason it's needed for. Review: Perfect for PICU Staff, Patients, and Families - As someone who works with kiddos on ECMO, I found this book to be extremely well written and medically accurate. We recently had a school-aged child on ECMO who enjoyed when his parents read this to him. It also helps siblings at home understand what’s going on with their brother / sister. Highly recommend!

This is amazing
Not only is this completely accurate, it is written so well for children. Plus it’s so cute! The pump nurse’s name is Flo! And at the end the elephant has a triple lumen central line in place. It’s those tiny details that make it even more wonderful for kids going through that, or seeing their siblings go through that. These kiddos might not be awake when we cannulate them, but often times it’s not too long before they wake up with giant cannulas full of their blood leaving their body. That’s really scary, and it’s also really uncomfortable. They can’t see themselves or everything that’s going on when they can hardly turn their head. This will be extremely valuable. I’ve purchased one myself for a patient, and I’m going to take it to our child life department so hopefully we can give one to each child that could use it. I would buy every book she’s published for kids.

Great Book to Help Kids Understand
Our youngest son was born with congenital diaphragmatic hernia. He spent time on ECMO. This book helped his older brother understand what ECMO is and will be able to help our CDH kid understand later on!

Highly recommended for an ECMO baby.
This is a beautiful book. My son was on ECMO as a baby so I bought this to help explain to him what he went through. Lovely pictures and very accurate. My son's ECMO surgeon saw I'd bought the book and bought one also as he was so impressed. Such an unusual but very important book. Every ECMO patent needs one.
