Always say a prayer before Bible reading or listening to the Bible. Also keep in mind, most of us are not hearing or reading the Bible in Its original language. Through the centuries, the meaning of some of the words have changed. Some research into the customs of the day from the Biblical times helps gain a richer and more meaningful understanding. I have also found it extremely helpful to have a copy of "The Catechism of the Catholic Church" close at hand. And there are other helpful resources when seeking answers to questions that manifest during Bible study.
