Er beginnt bei typischen Anwendungen von EFI-systemen (electronic fuel injection) um dann in wichtige Hintergründe wie Verbrennungs-, Sensor- und Aktoreneigenschaften (z.B. dem Einspritzventil und dessen Kennlinie) einzugehen. Mit dem so aufgebauten Wissen führt er im Anschluss in die Einspritzmengenberechnung, wie es für obiges Motormodell notwendig ist, ein. Ich finde die Erläuterungen auf mathematischer Ebene dabei sehr hilfreich um den Sinn des "VE-Tunings", (VE = volumetric efficiency) also dem Herausmessen des volumetrischen Wirkungsgrades, wohl aber mehr des Luftaufwandes, zu verstehen.Im Hauptteil geht Banish auf die Vorgehensweisen und Besonderheiten des sog. Speed-Density-Model, wie es im Englischen Sprachgebrauch genannt wird, ein. Er erläutert dabei Schritt für Schritt wie die Bedatung der VE-Tabelle (VE map) an einem idealer weise gebremste Dynamometer durchführt werden kann. Dabei berichtet er zwischendurch von typischen Fehlern, die dabei beobachtet werden können. Man merkt hinter seinem didaktischem Ansatz, das er auch ein leidenschaftlicher Dozent oder Lehrer in diesem Felde ist, da er mit solchen Anekdoten immer wieder Rückbezug auf das nicht ganz so schlichte System Motor und seinen Eigenschaften nimmt. Als Beispiel sei hier die Anmerkung der Zündzeitpunkteinstellung für den Leerlaufbetrieb genannt, die zum Zwecke der Momentenregelung nicht Drehmoment-optimal eingestellt werden darf. Den Rest darf sich der geneigte Leser selber ansehen...Banish schließt sein Werk mit typischen Tuning-Beispielen, die mich jetzt garnicht interessierten, und einem Überblick über vertriebene Nachmarkt-Motorregler oder -ECU's (ECU = engine control unit), die mich wiederum sehr interessierten, da hier kein Marketing betrieben sondern eher charakterisiert wurde.Ich habe das Buch, trotz meiner Arbeit im Bereich der Motorentwicklung, mit Begeisterung gelesen, da es für den Einstieg in das Einstellen (Tuning) eines vollständig für sich stehenden Motorreglers (Stand alone ECU) eine gute Basis bildet und für den Fortgeschrittenen als Auffrischung und Erinnerung an gelerntes in kompakter Form dienen kann.Ein sympathisches Buch eines leidenschaftlichen Tuners.
