It’s a garden statue. And it can’t be exposed to moisture?!? The battery compartment is across the bottom of the statue and is not protected or sealed in any special way. It’s very silly and kindof a cheat to sell a ‘garden statue’ that cannot be exposed to moisture. It’s a design flaw to put the plastic door for batteries on the bottom of a garden statue. Even if you did bring the statue indoors every time it rained, sitting this ‘garden statue’ in the garden is going to get the electronics damp and dirt is going to get into the battery compartment, just by sitting on the damp ground. Defiantly will need to repair that and add protectant for outside use. For those having issues with sound - I had to use the batteries that came with it (hidden in the box). Regular AA batteries did not work. As for realistic sound - it is very close to some of the calls that my Pilleated do make. Looked forward to putting it outside and using the motion detection - BUT - SADLY it says - not to use with batteries if there is a chance it can get wet. So not sure why then it is advertised for both indoor and outdoors since even my covered porch gets wet in storms ??? Think the feet are the wrong color - mine are painted glossy black. The first couple birds did not work but Oh my goodness what a cute bird. So cute! I just had to try again to get a working bird and I am so glad I did! In fact I ended up sending back two but keeping three. They are not small at all. I would say these are about 25% larger than a real Robin. The sound is a little corny but its bright! Outside it sounds much better than inside. What I appreciate best about this Robin statue is, in the yard I have placed these in the shade and within sight so as they are in the garden and among my shrubs, I can see them. If these were the actual size of a Robin they would get lost in the landscape. Its fun to hear them go off and really I know they are going to stop working eventually despite changing batteries, they are well worth owning for the design.
