Does it need to be refrigerated after opening?

When I opened it, it was so rancid that it smelled up my kitchen. I threw it out.

Is this "liquid-consisteny-oil-like", or is it like "butter-hard" type?

This tallow's consistency depends on the temperature in which it's stored. It arrived oil-like, but I kept it in the fridge and it hardened like lard. Just don't open it when it's warm, or you may be splashed!
