Very simple to follow along. Great resource for kids who are lost.
This book reactivated my mom brain and I remembered so much from when I was a teen taking these classes. It breaks the information down into little chunks and allows you to practice to test your understanding. My 14 yr old loved this for review. Great books!

Good for review, but there are mistakes
Best as either a supplement to a textbook or for adult review. As the title says it is a "Study Guide;" it does not contain the nuts and bolts to properly get a handle on algebra. It's weak in background information however, there are many older, reliable resources many of which are out of copyright and free to access. If you are a student going through algebra for the first time, this will get the job done, but you may struggle later on, even if you get the companion workbook. (FYI the workbook does not cover the pre-algebra sections; it begins with Unit 4 Exponents.) If you are self-learning or homeschooling, you will need another more verbose book besides this one. This book does not contain the in depth explanations and proofs. It also sometimes "skips" steps rather than following the rules. You could learn some habits that will make continued learning more of a challenge than it needs to be. If you are a student that struggled with algebra 1 in school, then working through this book over the summer will help you nail things down before you deal with algebra 2 next year. Difficulty in math at this stage is just a lack in understanding the prior fundamentals. Besides the "mistakes" in the progression of steps in the math, let's remember there is often more than one way to get to the answer. There simply isn't room in the average book to spell out all the ways you could work through a problem. That said, I am working through the book right now and I have found errors in the answers for some of the problems. My copy was printed in 2021 and I looked online for a possible errata. I have not found one. I believe page 73, #10 has a typo. Try using 19.2 miles otherwise, your answer will be off by 0.11... Pg 147 numbers 9 and 10 also will have the wrong answers. You should get 125/8 and 27/64. If #10 is a typo you can try -(4/3)^3 (negative is before the parenthesis instead of on the exponent) which feels more like a logical progression. Good Luck.

Absolute Student Must Have
The Everything You Need to Ace series is, in my opinion, the greatest set of study tools for a middle schooler, and even a high schooler. I buy these for some of my struggling students and those that actually use them are stronger students and begin to understand their subjects better. These are a must in a family home with school aged kids.

yes! engaging, simple to understand, content laid out systematically
I ordered 5-6 Algebra 1 review books for my student to use for practice & reinforcement before taking her final Algebra exam, and also to fill in gaps on topics her teacher didn't cover. This is the best book of the lot! It is well laid out, engaging and interactive, the color schemes facilitate comprehension, and fits the bill in every way. It clearly lays out the need-to-know content, appropriately builds from one skill to the next, and provides a few practice problems with detailed explanations for each. The only topic I didn't find it to cover is piece wise functions. There are some practice problems but not a ton. If you're wanting repetition of lots of practice problems, this is not it. If you want to cover the material, ensure you have comprehension, and practice each topic, especially in an interactive and friendly format, then this is it. If you want to learn something that you missed or that the teacher didn't cover, this is it. Don't waste your money on the other books out there.

Love and use this series often
8th Grade Homeschool Review: As a parent and homeschool educator, I've been using a set of books for 8th-grade homeschooling, and I'd like to share my thoughts. These books have proven to be a valuable resource in our homeschool journey. They provide a solid foundation for various subjects, covering a wide range of topics essential for 8th-grade students. What I appreciate most about these books is their comprehensive approach. They offer a well-structured curriculum that allows students to delve into subjects such as mathematics, science, literature, and history. The content is clear, and the exercises and activities help reinforce the learning process. However, it's worth noting that while these books are fantastic as guides, they might not provide all the answers. As with any educational materials, there may be moments when students need additional support or clarification. In such cases, we've found supplemental videos and other educational resources to be incredibly helpful. The combination of these books and supplementary materials has been the key to a well-rounded education. Subnote: This review is intended to serve as a general overview for all the books I'm currently using for 8th-grade homeschooling. If any of the books stand out, either for their exceptional quality or shortcomings, I will provide a more detailed review for that specific book. It's all about ensuring that our homeschooling experience is as enriching as possible.

the best value books for what they teach
i love this series of book's, My only issue is that there arent enough of them; they dont have algebra 2, calculus, physics, trigonometry, etc. These books generally have everything you'll need to grasp the basics and build a solid foundation to move onto harder topics. The explanations are clear and concise, the topics gradually build on the previous ones, the diagrams are very easy on the eyes and the quality of the books themselves is nice but the cover is a bit flimsy and can crease. The book itself is a bit light on questions and doesn't cover all of algebra 1 (and has zero trigonometry) but no book is perfect and for the price of this book, you can't go wrong.
