How long do these last? I know that aqua doodle eventually stops fading...these are made of cardboard?

Ours are still working after six pretty soppy uses. Even if they give up soon, it will have been worth the fun the grandkids have had with them. Keep in mind we're talking 1 1/2 and 2 1/2 year olds that make a huge mess with regular markers or paints. The pages are a heavy, coated cardboard. So far no warping has occurred.

Is the pen suppose to be like a paint brush? I recieved it and the bristles are spread apart like a brush not a pen.

Can this work with out the pen? We would like to send it to our sponsored child, they only allow certain materials so the pen could not be sent.

Yes it would... but point of this is using the pen... imagine I child so young and understand the concept of how water will turn this black ND white paper to color... the child is so amazed when he or she uses the pen to paint colors... it's just an empty little plastic that can hold water but to me it would having the pen...
