Great low cost knife set, but requires a little elbow grease
Update 2/9/2020: Well I have a few years under my belt using these knives and I love them. I did end up getting a rotary knife sharpener and used it on all the non-serrated blades once. Yes, these will hold an edge and after using the sharpener they are all almost too sharp. I did end up replacing the supplied scissors with a nicer set. But other than that I think you'll be very happy with what you get. I ALWAYS hand wash these knives and have not had any issues with rust or degradation of the handles. They still look like they did the day I bought them back in 2016. Highly recommended. Original review on 8/27/2016: Received my set and have to say I'm pretty impressed. My expectations are never very high when I'm ordering something that's at the low end of the cost scale and this set just may change my attitude. The set arrived on time and came well packaged. Inside the main box all knives (and scissors) were packaged together in a box. Each knife also had a cardboard sleeve protecting it's blade. A foam block was used as filler to prevent the knives and knife block from shifting inside the packaging. Everything in the box appeared new and was in perfect condition. All parts were present and accounted for. The knife block is medium weight and for the most part a standard item. It's attractive and will blend in with my kitchen well. It has good feet and will not slide around. Works for me. The knives are attractive but to get full use out of them you'll have to use a little elbow grease. Out of the box my set had a working edge put on the blades and they weren't very sharp. So I took about 5 minutes and honed all the standard blades (not serrated) with the supplied sharpening steel. The net result was a set that is razor sharp and can easily slice through an over ripe tomato. Since I hand washed everything the honing process really didn't seem like it took much time and wasn't overly inconvenient. All knives have a full tang (the blade extends all the way to the end of the handle) so I expect them to last even with daily use. The weak link in the chain is the scissors. They are light duty and I don't expect them to last very long. The metal blades are affixed to plastic levers via plastic weld joints. You might be able to see this in the picture somewhat. If all you do is cut string or paper you may be OK. If you like to use scissors to cut up chickens you may be looking for a new pair sooner rather than later.

Great value
This isn't the best set of knives out there, but if you are expecting that for this price you're insane. That said, for the price, this is an excelent set of knives. They are sharp enough for regular kitchen use and sturdy enough to hold up to a fair ammount of use as well. As an example, personally, I cook a LOT. As in, I cook nearly everything I eat every day and also do all day long cooking at least one day a week. These knives haven't failed me yet. I have also occasionally left them sitting in the sink dirty or in water, and have yet to see a spot of rust.

Handy, useful set of knives
This knife set was purchased for a gift, and I have not personally used it. However, from its appearance and heft, I believe these knives will be just fine for the people to whom I'm giving them and their level of cooking (very good, but not super gourmet). They have crummy knives now, no where to store them well, and with the block, these knives are going to be a BIG improvement. I will remind them to wash and dry them carefully, in order to avoid water spots/draining and possible rusting. The steel appears to be stainless, but not a really heavy gauge nor polished to avoid water spotting. That said, the entire set contains plenty of variation in size and weight, are sharp and can be easily sharpened, and the scissors and sharpener will be handy. This set seems to be good value; I can tell you more in a few months!

The safety was good, storage capacity was great, the look was exactly as described, knife set was in good condition, for the value was a good price even as a gift.

Happy, happy wife!
My husband actually bought these for me as a surprise replacement for an old set (another manufacture). You get way more than you pay for. Not only are the blades sharp and sturdy, they're easy to handle, and clean easily. These are definitely worth a buy. The bamboo cutting board is by far my favorite piece, next to the cutting knife. They smell a little funny at first, but easily cleared away to smell like an amazing wood. Durable, easy to clean, and not easily destroyed. I'll need to invest in a wood oil to keep them up to standard, but over all, I'd buy these again.

Get a good sharpener though and tune them up before every use ...
Been using these knives for about a year now. Need constant sharpening (bought a sharpener recently, as the sharpening rod doesn't work well). The scissors rusted at the joint, and I didn't notice until the plastic cap covering the joint wore out and fell off. Gross. All in all, I guess it's ok for the money. Get a good sharpener though and tune them up before every use (the kitchen knives at least. The steak knives seem to hold up well).

The block is nice and hefty so I know it will stand sturdy ...
I have been searching for a knife block with quality knives including j.a henckels knives set victorinox chef knife ginsu knife block chicago cutlery essentials dishwasher safe knife set and this set is exactly what I needed. You get an assortment of knife sizes plus kitchen scissors. The block is nice and hefty so I know it will stand sturdy without tipping. The knives are sharp and I had no problem cutting through different types of meats, and vegetables. They are lightweight but durable. I have not had any issues with them being loose or bending. The scissors also are very sharp I have used them to cut pieces of meat, and herbs. I bought this block knife set during a promotion to try it out and I am glad I did. I have gotten rid of my old dull knives and replaced it with this awesome block. I also love how nice it looks sitting on my counter top.

Dont listen to the poor reviews you get more than what you pay for
Just do it. If youre cheap like me it's worth it. Reading all the poor reviews I was nervous. But as soon as i opened I was like oh my gosh these people are crazy. I don't need much. And I was expecting way worse from how people made it out to be. It's $15???? If you guys are expecting chef commercial grade, you're clearly in the wrong place. I think it's just what I was looking for. Perfect for me. But I'm not picky
