Does it give a code on a failed battery test?

No but it will tell you the battery has failed. I bought two for the the dealership and we use often daily. 100 percent satisfied.

Does this test 4d and 8d batteries as well ?

The MDX-P300 test range is 100 to 1400 CCA so this should cover all 4d and 8d batteries

can this test 24volt?

This model is for up to 12V systems only/ For multiple battery systems and 24V need model Midtronics (MDX-700HD) Battery and Electrical System Analyzer

Does this test for diode ripple in the alternator?

Not this model look at the MDX-740P model for any test on diode failures...
