The default for this is "5" cycles per hour, I set mine to "1". This has minimized annoying and inefficient cycling on my gas furnace. To make sure I knew exactly what was going on, I also turned off "Smart Response Technology", function #0530. I am not certain that the "Heating Cycle Rate" numbers correspond *exactly* to cycles per hour, but I believe that they are at least proportionate. Good luck! **Q: Does this need a C wire or does it run on batteries?** A: This does not need a C wire. It uses two AA batteries. Honeywell (and others such as Trane) use a C wire on models that use WiFi or voice recognition or Z-wave so they can have a 24V connection. All thermostats use low voltage from the other connectors and typically use the batteries as a backup when there's no C wire. For this thermostat, you can take it off the wall, hold it in your hands and program it. You can't do that on models that don't use batteries. However, those other models can be programmed from a computer or phone app so it's less necessary. **Q: Does it have a programmable fan?** A: Depends on your definition of 'programmable'. It can be set one of two ways: "On" - fan is always on, "Auto" - fan only runs when heat/cool is on. Those are the only fan settings. **Q: Why would you buy this thermostat over the one that costs $26, also from Honeywell?** A: We bought as the same reason as below. For us, the Honeywell RTkH7600D offered the possibility of setting automatic individual heat/cool cycles or programs for each day of the week. The $26 one offers program settings for Monday-through-Friday (one set that applies to all of the 5 weekdays) and a second programmable sets for Saturday and Sunday. We wanted to be able to set different programs for EACH day of the week. Once you figure out which of the two wires go where (in my case black wire to W and white wire to R) it all worked well. A little challenging to program the installers features but once you learn you’re good to go. No C wire needed as it runs on two AA batteries. It controls the heat perfectly and is simple enough for most people to use. Just the fact that it sets the heat back at night so I’m not spending money (electric heat is expensive) while I sleep.
