This textbooks will get you through Physiology with an overall better understanding of the subject. Together with "cases and problems", you're going to be very pleased. What's missing: EKGs, information is sparing Lung physiology is not as detailed as it could be (stick with West on this one) Neurophysiology is probably enough for most, but leaves out neuro science detail Can only recommend, you won't find a better written and more understandable physiology textbook out there. If you're solid on the topics in this textbook, you've already surpassed the sharp slope of the learning curve.

Costanzo’s Physiology is the best textbook ever written for medical students. As a tutor during M2-M4, Physiology was the only “textbook” I ever recommended students read cover to cover (not all at once of course, but reading the appropriate section before starting a new unit and again before the test). I loaned mine out so much, I had to buy it again from time to time since some never came back. She (taught for decades at a university medical school) tells you exactly what you need to know and nothing more with respect to physiology applied to medicine. The maroon boxes/case examples are a highlight, breaking down the complex pathophysiology of conditions like DKA into easily understandable concepts. The foundational knowledge gained will serve any reader throughout their medical career. I still thumb through the sections on metabolism, renal electrolyte balance, and hormone loops years later. For test prep (i.e. Step 1, 2CK), Linda Costanzo is also the author of the BRS Phys review book, which is great too but is no substitute for the original long form textbook for initial learning. If your medical school’s physiology instruction/course is subpar or you feel understandably lost, or you simply want a gratifying knowledge boost, this book can help you.

The book is written in a very lucid manner. It is a must buy book for MBBS students. There should have been a few more chapters on neurophysiology though. Overall it is a brilliant book. I am reviewing this book as a senior resident of physiology
