I honestly feel like a lot of the bad reviews are from people expecting this to work like a self tanner or like regular tanning oils, it’s just not that. This doesn’t give you color on its own at all, it just speeds up the tanning process if you’re already sitting in the sun. Because of that, it can go very wrong if you don’t use it properly. If the UV index is high, like around 7 to 9, you’re very likely to end up with a sunburn or even a rash, especially if you leave it on too long. That’s not really the product being bad, it’s just being used in a risky way. What worked for me is tanning normally first, with sunscreen on always, for around 20 to 30 minutes. Then I add a small amount of this and stay in the sun for a short time only. If your skin is pale or burns easily, you really shouldn’t go over 3 to 5 minutes. If your skin is more olive or you don’t usually burn, maybe 10 to 15 minutes max. Anything longer than that is honestly pushing it. This isn’t something you put on and just sit in the sun like it’s nothing. You have to be careful with it. Sunscreen is still necessary no matter your skin tone, and using an after sun lotion helps a lot. Overall, it does what it’s supposed to do, but only if you actually understand what it is and don’t treat it like a normal tanning product.
