Received my new Canon EF 70mm-200mm F/4L USM II lens today from Amazon. Fast shipping and well packed. The lens has a solid feel, everything is smooth when zooming and focusing. The newer, more white color, is very nice and matches my Canon 6D well. I sold my f/2.8L version of this lens due to the weight of it. After 4 years of using it, my shoulders and neck started to feel the pain. This F4 version is perfect, and lightweight. The lens hood is nice, and I believe it should have come with a tripod collar, but Canon seems to want to charge us extra for it. The lens comes with a nice soft case as well. Looking forward to continuing to do my youth sports photos, and general photography with this new lightweight alternative. Highly recommended.

This is one of the best lenses that Canon makes. Far lighter than the 70-200 F/2.8 version which is far more expensive, twice the weight and that extra stop is rarely needed in practice. A shift from ISO100 to ISO200 won't make an image quality difference and the bokeh is virtually identical. There was no warranty card in the box, so best guess this is a grey market lens. Warranty is only good for 1 year anyway so no a big loss for me. I'm more likely to drop the lens rather than it having a manufacturing defect!

The lens is quick, silent and sharp. I upgraded to this lens from the first version of the Canon EF 70-200mm f/4 USM Lens that I bought in 2012. A new feature that I have really made use of on this lens is Mode 3 on the stabilizer mode options. Mode 3 turns on the stabilizer when the shutter is released, and is intended to be used for erratic movement. I photograph birds and insects a lot, and Mode 3 works especially well with hummingbirds that hover, but constantly move one way or the other to get just outside of the view of the lens, bats and flying insects. The 5 stop stabilization is excellent for really low light situations, and I find it works great for getting clear photos of nocturnal animals like bats, owls and porcupines in the low gray light at dusk that are too far away for a flash. This lens also has a closer minimum focus than it's predecessor. With the sharpness and clarity this lens offers I can often get macro like detail. The lens is very lightweight and durable, which makes it a great choice for travel.
