An External HD?** A: It is an enclosure that you mount an internal hard drive in to basically make it external. Thanks in advance!** A: The case is plastic. Your laptop hard drive that you put into the plastic case is aluminum. The plastic case come with a USB cord to plug into another computer to access any stored files on the hard drive that you insert into the plastic case. The hard drive that you insert into the plastic case will also serve as an external hard drive. On the plastic case there is an on and off switch and a blue light that illuminates when turned on. VERY IMPORTANT: before you unplug it from your computer you must click on the icon and eject the device. You have to do that process with anything you plug into a computer. If you do not eject any device plugged into a computer you run the risk of erasing what is plugged into the computer.
