Where Eagles Dare [DVD] [2020]

I am building an all time favorite library of movies, because streaming services are either no longer streaming them or want to rent them. The blu ray of this all time great movie is okay, but the upscaling is not as good as it could be . Still I give the movie 5 stars. The theme song is worth a listen.

If you watch this movie once you will want to watch it many times. Photography, Scenery and cast second to none. ANXIOUSLY WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO MAKE IT IN 4K!! WHY IT HASN’T BEEN MADE YET IS BEYOND LOGIC. Finally BUY AND OWN VIDEO MEDIA, DON’T PAY TO STREAM IT EACH TIME YOU WANT TO WATCH ANY MOVIE!! Not yelling but IT’S A NO BRAINER AS A CONSUMER.

This movie looks awesome on Blu-ray. One of best World War II movies. Starring Richard Burton and Clint Eastwood.

Good movie

This review is for "Where Eagles Dare" in Blu-Ray, Region-Free -- with GERMAN as a spoken language, including English and several other Western European spoken languages, too. Also, subtitles in foreign languages, also. This version of the movie was released just a few weeks ago, but I have waited for this for decades! I have hoped that somehow, someone would finally release this movie with a GERMAN vocal track, and that is exactly what this Blu-ray version does. Not only that, but the video transfer is excellent and does not suffer at all from some of the strange "darkening" of scenes that are often noted in some older Blu-ray video transfers. The images are clean and rich, and the soundtrack is excellent also. That one scene in the castle where the two SS officers (one is "Major" von Hapen, and the other is "Colonel" Kramer) go at each other because of the growing intrigue surrounding the capture and upcoming interrogation of U. S. General Carnaby is absolutely PRICELESS in the German language (which I understand and speak). I hope you enjoy it, too. I only waited over 40 years for this film to be released in the U. S. with foreign languages, and now it's here! If this is what you want, be certain that you get this one version -- do not confuse it with others or you'll be disappointed....

One of the great WWII action movies from the sixties. I remember seeing this in London when I was a student. The transfer on this Blu-Ray is superb. Great contrast and enough dark detail to be totally absorbing. My only disappointment was that the Intermission was cut from this release unlike the excellent LaserDisc version which also included Ron Goodwin's compelling Entr'Act music. I'm hoping that there will be a future release with the original road-show version, Intermission and all. That will be the one to buy.

War movies are violent and this is no exception. Heart pounding action. Interesting plot. Great actors. Good guys are invincible.

Seems like a good copy to Blu-ray. No complaints

It does not need a review since it speaks on its own. Credible action and superlative action by most of the cast.

An absolute classic. Clint at his best.

This is possibly the greatest action movie ever. Of all Alistair MacLean's books I feel this is the very best plot, multiple story lines, however with an over riding single story line that is only revealed half way into the story. This movie is terrific. In this Richard Burton is totally superb. Of Alistair MacLean's action stories, I found HMS Ulysses (I don't know of a movie about HMS Ulysses) and Where Eagles Dare (he also wrote the screen play to Where Eagles Dare) to be his best. I personally feel this is a much more totally action packed super plot story than his The Guns of Navarone. In Where Eagles Dare, every turn there is action, and with this superb plot the story rockets along at great speed. Clint Eastwood as an American OSS agent is Richard Burton's only trusted male companion and plays a good role, second to Burton as someone highly trusted but kept out of the loop until it is absolutely necessary to let him in on the whole aim of the movie plot. Richard Burton plays the role of an English MI 6 Agent, who has a couple of very capable pretty ladies, Mary Ure and Ingrid Pitt for help. There are cable car action scenes in this movie which are nearly breath taking, and with a terrific music theme. This movie has everything for spy and action movie buffs.

A workmate of mine around 1969 advised me to go and see this movie which I never did. First saw it on TV a number of years later and straight away thought it was one of the best war movies ever made. I eventually bought the Video, then the DVD and now the BluRay and have watched on the different formats many many times, even though I know what is going to happen. The story is excellent as is the photography the scenery and the acting. definitely one of the best.
