I Am Really, Really Concentrating (Charlie and Lola)

My kids love the Charlie and Lola books. Cute characters and good stories. Check out the TV show on Amazon prime! A huge hit.

Charlie and Lola stories are adorable

Lola is, again, optimistic when she cannot quite succeed at Field Day as Lotta does. She is encouraging to little girls.

I love Charlie & Lola! They are my favorite and my best, lol. This particular set of C&L books is taken directly from the television series. They use stills from the show, so the stories will look familiar to anyone who has the dvd's. (And you should -- the dvd's are wonderful!) The text in the books changes sizes and typefaces like the text on the cover, which may be a little confusing for very young readers, but charming for older ones. The only bad thing here is the shipping. For some reason Amazon does absolutely nothing to protect these books in shipping. I've ordered two and both came beat to heck with crushed corners and creases on the covers. One was so bad that Amazon replaced it, but the replacement arrived in even worse shape! You're best ordering several of these together, or ordering them with other large, flat items, so that you've got some hope of them staying nice.

I bought this book not knowing Charlie & Lola, and I really enjoyed it. I like the way the author writes, and the way the bother and sister interact. I think it's a very sweet book, and my 3 1/2 year old really likes it.

The Charlie and Lola books actually authored by Lauren Child are far more charming and imaginative then the tv episodes in book form that have been churned out lately. My kids find them mostly forgettable, and keep turning back to the Child originals. The TV books are much less about Lola's highly active imagination, and more about everyday events. Small children basically live inside their imaginations, and so are less interested in how well Lola can concentrate. "I am Not Sleepy and Will Not Go to Bed" ,for example, in which Lola imagines dancing dogs, whales in the tub, a toothbrushing lion, and so on, has been worn out by many, many bedtime readings.

I wish I had not bought this book. I would return it, but since I bought it on the 4 for 3 promotion I would not get anything back. This book is not a "real" Charlie and Lola book and is not as imiginative, funny, or interesting as the others I have read. The text is on the side of the page and is mostly dialogue that is hard to relate to the pictures. I bought it as a gift for my 4 year old niece and might not even give it to her. Very disappointed.

Super cute Charlie & Lola book! These are my girls absolute favourite books. They love the illustrations, stories and big imagination of Lola. Lola is very relatable and such a cute character! My girls request a Charlie & Lola book every night at bed time and they never disappoint!

Just the best serie of books

I like the original Charlie and Lola books a lot. The books based off the Disney show are pretty good, but not quite the same caliber.

I felt disappointed after reading this story to my daughter, who is an avid Charlie and Lola fan. Her reaction was muted as well. Now I understand why: firstly, the story uses "characters created by Lauren Child"; it's not actually written by her, although Amazon says it is. Secondly, it's flavour is distinctly American. The story revolves around "Field Day" (that's Sports Day in Britain) and there are plenty of other references which I had to translate for my daughter ("jumping rope"? Lauren Child would have called it a "skipping rope"). The flow of the story bears little resemblance to the original books such as "I am Not Sleepy and I Will Not Go to Bed" and the classic "I Will Not Ever Never Eat a Tomato" - it is quite clearly not Lauren Child's work, and is nowhere near as good as a result. To be honest, the more I read the book, the more cheated I feel. Don't be tempted to buy this before seeing it yourself... get it from a bookshop! Personally I'll be asking for my money back!
