The second bullet point in the product about section says this: "We use only the highest-quality Berberine HCL (Berberis Aristata)." So Bereris Aristata (Indian Barberry) is the plant.

I too want to know the source of the berberine - plant and country of origin. why is amazon not asking nutrivein to answer this question?
