We used it for a 30 gallon. **Q: im looking at the medium or large how big is the hose?** A: I have the large size. It works well for a 55 gallon tank. The suction tube is 24" long, the hose is 6' long and it has a 1/2" diameter. It fills a 5 gallon bucket pretty quick. I wouldn't get a medium size for a 55 gallon tank, the suction tube would be too short. I had this product for a while and I am happy with it. **Q: what is the ID & OD of the 6-foot tube?** A: The ID is 7/16", OD 9/16". Be advised that the end of the tubing is soft and doesn't hold a perfectly round shape. I measured it a few times and came up with the same results though. If you are trying to fit the inside of the tube over a 1/2" OD coupling, it may work with some lubrication and perhaps heating it first in hot water. **Q: Is the Medium big enough to clean a 55 Gal?** A: yes.
