Sikkens IVA300QT Interlux Cetol Marine - Quart,1 Pack

This is one of those products that I just love to use. I have a Catalina 30 docked in an ocean harbor and the ease of use and durability of Cetol Marine is a prime factor in my giving it 5 stars. There are several schools of thought when it comes to marine varnish and 20 yrs ago, I evaluated them all and went with this very product. I like the tint it adds to teak, makes it a striking dark amber color which also serves to hide any blemishes or minor gray grain. I find it important to remove all of the old varnish using a paint scraper and heat gun if necessary. I sand down from 80 to 150 to 220, then clean the surface and put on 3 coats as instructed on the can. Smart sailors will lightly recoat annually or as needed. I wasn't that smart before, however, with this application, I promise never to have to completely sand down all the brightwork again. Smarter and happy makes a Sailor's day go better. I didn't get the color I ordered but it was close enough so I didn't complain. Product works very well. I used this on a pair of teak rocking chairs that I was having to refinish every year or so. Even after acid washing and sanding, there were plenty of gray areas that looked bad. The colorant in the Cetol (technically makes this a glaze) effectively covered these bad spots and the results were impressive. After a year, I see no visible degradation and it looks great. It was very easy to apply and achieve great results -- can't be said of many finishes. I recommend letting it dry for a least a week before heavy use. I initially didn't like the glossy finish and was going to cover it with a satin marine varnish but the glossy finish grew on me. This wouldn't be my first choice for new exotic wood because you would cover some of the beauty, but for average wood, abused wood, or extreme use outdoor projects this product can't be beat.

We had an old cedar plank we wanted to use for a shelf on our patio. Some boating friends recommended this product. After preparing the wood according to the instructions, I applied 4 coats, front back and sides. It is beautiful and water beads up nicely. The product appears to be very durable. The only drawback … patients are required to allow complete drying between coats, but it is worth the wait. The entire project took 2 weeks from start to finish.

Quickly and safely shipped! The service far out sped the estimated date and I'm incredibly happy with the purchase. Exactly as described and in great shape, 0 spillage, well sealed, and in an extra bag! We finished using to it seal our chicken coop since it didn't have a sealant on the wood paneling and wanted to increase its longevity. After turning on the sprinkler, the wood paneling isn't soaking in the water like it did before but letting the water run off.

This is my choice for my exterior marine teak (toerails, cockpit coaming, bow platform, and handrails). It was a lot of work to get the multiple coats applied, but worth it and easier and more durable than varnish. Also easy to maintain buy touching up the Cetol Gloss finish coat over the three seasons since I used this.

Sikkens makes the best teak stains out there. Unfortunately, I wanted a more natural look and this made the swimplatform very dark, but other than my mistake, it works amazingly.

Used this product on multiple boats and their teak for 40 years. Excellent look if you sand down to bare teak and put 4 to 5 coats on. Redcoat one coat once a year. Only complaint is I wish it came in pints also. I’ve never used a full quart before I need fresh product.
