Hi, at dark enviroment if you light up the end glow fibers, its body also will light up but not as strong as the ends. If you need brighter of the fiber cable body, you can try the side glow fiber cables. The more powerful lgith engine you use, the more bright of the fiber body, also you can connect light engines both its 2 ends.

What is the minimum radius that the individual strands can bend?

I bent a couple of these at a right angle. They still work however, they leaked light at the bend.
