Great with some work
I did not get mine through Amazon, but thought I would share some info. This is not a plug and play accessory out of the box for a 2015 PA 14. It comes with 2 mounts that attach to the new h-rail (I think they are calling it), and 8 hard mounts for mounting it to older model PA's or other hobie kayaks. 4 are slightly angled, and 4 are straight to accommodate different applications. The problem is, if/when mounted to the H-rail ... It puts a rediculas amount of pressure on the shorter bars (the ones you would disconnect to fold h-bar down). This is because the h-bar is about 2-3 inches away from the h-ral on both sides of the kayak. You literally have to force them, and it causes the polymer ends (connection points) to flex and bend to the point that it looks like they're going to break. Not to mention getting the pins in is next to impossible and a nightmare. I was close to taking it back to the Hobie dealer, but after looking at it for a minute... I came up with a simple solution. I picked up 2 more of the flat mounting plates that are made for the h-rail, and mounted 2 of the included angled mounts to them, and then mounted them on the rail. It works like a charm, way better than what hobie sends with the kit. No pressure on the bars, so there's no worry of it breakig, at least due to stretching the bars beyond their means. By mounting on the flat mounts, it moves the connection point closer to the inside of the boat by a couple of inches on each side. Doesn't take up hardly any more space btw. These deminsions are probably taken from the previous version that was mounted on the accessory board, which is almost non existent now.... The h-rail is replacing it. It's sturdy as mounting it directly to the hull now, as these mounts are no joke. Now that it's not torqued, and everything sits as it should.... This is a phenomenal accessory. With the new mounting h-rail... And adjustable h-bar.... You can position this thing about anywhere you'd like. Meaning, you could have the h-bar sitting basically in your lap if you felt like moving the mounting plates that close to the seat. The new design alows you to mount accessories directly to the bar, and Now with the ability to move it literally anywhere in the cockpit I want... The possibilities are endless. I'm even thinking of using it as a gun rest (while seated).... Truly more versatile now. Great product, great concept... Just poor execution with the installation hardware included. Highly recommend IF YOU MOUNT ON THE FLAT BRACKETS like I mentioned. Do not recommend if you think you're going to make it work out of the box. Wish hobie could reimburse me for the 2 mounts I had to purchase to make this work, but I'm just thankful I didn't have to return it. They either need to include a yet longer connection tube (comes with 2, a long one ...which I used, and a shorter one for different applications on slimmer hobies), redesign the h-rail mounts they've made for it, or include 2 flat mounts instead. Other than the mounting issues, truly a great product.
