Purchased for a Dell Venue 11 Pro 7140. Working goodI read several reviews warning people away from this drive for the Venue 7140, but I also saw a few responses by Transcend, saying that the firmware of the drive had been updated to work properly. Since this appears to be the ONLY 2260 Sata 3 M.2 drive with 512mb, it this or nothing. So I took the chance.Along with this drive, I purchased a

ZTC Thunder Enclosure NGFF M.2 SSD to USB 3.0 Adapter. Support UASP SuperSpeed 6Gb/s 520MB/s Black Model ZTC-EN004-BK

so i could access the drive before actually putting it in use. Then I downloaded Transcend's SSD Scope software.SSD Scope recognized this drive in it's new enclosure. When I clicked the link to update the firmware it seemed to hang for a few minutes, then reported that the firmware was at the latest version. I think it actually did update it because every time I clicked the link after that it reported the firmware was up to date very quickly.I removed one star because SSD Scope could not clone my current drive onto this new one. Every time I tried, it said that the clone failed but gave no further details. I tried several other disk cloning tools which also failed. The problem was probably the fact that bitlocker was turned on, and I didn't want to take the chance of turning it off.I finally inserted this new drive in my 7140, plugged in an external DVD drive, and restored the software from the initial system disks I'd created when I first got the venue. It took about an hour to restore the system, then another 2 hours to update to windows 10. I'm now in the middle of re-installing all of my applications. I do have a backup I could probably restore now that I'm on windows 10, but I kind of like installing a clean system every now and again anyway.Update Sep 24, 2015The drive did have flaws when I really began to use is routinely. Every few days I would find my Venue rebooted and a text message on the display saying that no bootable media could be found. A power cycle always fixed the problem, but it worried me..Yesterday I downloaded the latest transcend SSD scope and saw that another new firmware was available. Version N1126KBI went through the horrible process of download and creating a bootable USB thumb drive and updating the firmware. It completely wiped the drive (which it warned me about). The trouble was that my system images would not recognize the newly wiped drive as a target for the system image restore, so I had to completely re-install windows from scratch. The drive does seem to be working smoother now but only time will tell.Update Sept 30th, 2015The drive has worked flawlessly since the update. I've used the laptop for allot of video production without any problems.Update Nov 4, 2015My venue 11 Pro 7140 has continued to work flawlessly since the update. I haven't noticed a difference in battery performance since the switch from the original 128gig drive. Nor have I noticed any heat issues. The backplate right over the CPU of the tablet gets warm to the touch, but the area over the drive doesn't.Raised my review to 4 stars. Still missing one star for the pain of having to update the firmware, and loosing all data during the update.

How to install Transcend 512 gb 60 mm M.2 SSD in Dell Venue Pro 11 7140

*by S***P on Reviewed in the United States on August 11, 2016*

I FINALLY got this model installed and running on my Dell Venue Pro 11 7140! It took about 6 tries and it was NOT simple. For those of you who want to skip the painful steps:1. You'll also need the StarTech M.2 SATA External SSD Enclosure - USB 3.0 with UASP, sold here on Amazon.Insert the Transcend SSD into the StarTech enclosure and attach the included SATA cable.2. Purchase and install Acronis True Image 2016. It was the ONLY software package that I tried that actually worked (and I tried Easeus, DirectDrive XML, Paragon, Macrium...none of these worked.)3. Plug the StarTech cable into the USB 3.0 port of the Venue and then run Acronis True Image.4. Choose the Clone Disk option. Choose the 128gb internal drive as the source and then choose the 512gb Transcend drive as the destination. Choose "Manual" installation and then choose the 3rd option (not proportional and not one for one). This copies the boot and recovery partitions to the beginning and end of the drive and uses ALL of the space in the middle for the new C: drive.5. Acronis True Image reboots the system and performs the clone, copying all the partitions. It then shuts down the system when done.6. Once done, remove the power cord and disengage from the keyboard.7. Remove the Transcend SSD from the StarTech enclosure and set aside for a moment.8. Open the back cover of the Venue. There is a small square hole in the lower-right side corner of the unit, below the speaker grill. You need to insert a small phillips-head screwdriver into the hole in order to lift that corner of the cover just a little. Then use a small piece of plastic and gently pry the rest of the cover open, little by little.9. Follow instructions you can find on the Internet for unscrewing and removing the 128gb drive that comes with the Venue. Then insert the Transcend SSD. It goes in at a little angle and then must be screwed in with the screw you just removed.10. Put the 128gb SSD into the StarTech enclosure and put away for safekeeping.11. Put the back cover back on. I found that snapping the bottom first, then flexing and slightly bending the sides worked best, followed by the top, near the camera.12. I don't recall the BIOS settings, but there is something you need to do with UEFI secure boot off. Sorry I can't be more specific, but I changed the settings a number of times and don't recall everything I did.13. I almost forgot - you'll need a VERY tiny point Phillips head screwdriver for manipulating the tiny screws used on the StarTech enclosure and used to secure the SSD inside the Venue. Amazon and some local resellers (I can't mention name here but a chain of small electronics stores found all over the country) have these small screwdrivers.14. I also almost forgot - you need to turn off bitlocker if it's turned on in your original 128gb SSD.Hope these steps help!

    Venue 11 7140 - Working Great!

*by 1***R on Reviewed in the United States on March 13, 2016*

I was able to upgrade my Dell Venue 11 Pro 7140 from 64GB to 256GB (Transcend TS256GMTS600). Here is the procedure I used, as best I remember them from my notes:1. Make a system image. Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Backup and Restore (Windows 7) : Create a system Image. Save it to a microSD card on the tablet.2. Create a Recovery USB flash drive. Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Recovery: Create a recovery drive. Check “Back up system files” Wait until drive is created.3. Shut down tablet. Remove old SSD. Install new SSD. Do not format or partition it.4. Power on tablet. After vibration, hold volume up button. Tablet will go into one-time Boot menu. In Other options, Change Boot Mode Settings: select UEFI Boot, Secure Boot OFF. Under UEFI Boot: select the USB drive.5. Tablet should boot to Recovery Environment on USB. Select Troubleshoot, then Advanced Options, then System Image Recovery. Find the system image on the SD card. “Next”, “Finish”, and “Yes” your way through the screens until the process starts.6. When it is done, it should boot back into your lock screen, just like the old one.7. Use a partition program to merge your unallocated space with your C: drive. I used AOMEI Partition Assistant. Very easy.Of course, this is a simplified version of the tortured path I took to get here, but I believe this is everything important. A couple of times I got errors that went away after a second try.
