The difference between this and an old school cheap hand axe is night and day. It's fun to bust wood down for fire starting, etc. as needed. This is not for splitting big rounds (it's a foot and a half long, it's a one hand axe....) but if the big ones perform like this they'd be great for big splitting chores.

This axe easily splits fireplace size wood into smaller pieces and/ or kindling. It's a perfect camp or patio fireplace one handed splitting axe. Maybe a but too light, but handy, pretty soft steel even for a splitting maul. It serves the purpose, but the Estwing is way better at a slightly higher cost.
