This is just such a nice crimper. As a ham, I've put together hundreds of power poles. I always solder them, because I've never found any normal crimper to work correctly. As an IT guy that used to do wiring, I have installed thousands of coax crimp connectors over the years. A full ratcheting crimp tool, with the right dies and right connectors is the fastest and most reliable way to terminate a connection. But everything has to match. This tool, with 14gauge stranded wire, and genuine powerpole connectors, works perfectly. The plastic holder at the end, that holds the pin and allows you to keep pressure on the wire into the pin works great. The ratcheting mechanism works great. If you use different connectors or different wire from what it's built for, it's not going to work...just solder them. But if you're putting together lots of these things this is the only way to go.

When I first used it, it didn't want to crimp very hard. That was because the dies were hitting eachother too early. So I went with a file to them at the tip. It also tends to grip onto freshly crimped pins. Which is a problem because of that plastic bit that is attached at the back will bend your pins. A little bit of filing with a needle file will make this less of a problem. I recommend removing that plastic bit, as it doesn't really do anything useful. If it had an adjustable stop, maybe I would have left it. If it had a slot so that when the pins wedge themselves into the crimp it wouldn't bend them, again maybe I would have left it. The only thing I can see that this plastic bit does is to make sure you have the pins and wire inserted in the correct direction. Once i did those modifications it works great.

The Included Instructions on the Knoweasy Powerpole Crimper Package are Unreadable & Useless - The BAD News Ends Right About There. The Final Word will be Quickly... I haven't Named a Tool in Many a Year, However I had to Name This Set of Crimpers "Andy" so I remember what they are used for. Installing the Metal End in the Crimper Pocket First and then inserting the wire Before Crimping seems to Work Best on the Smaller Gauge Wire Sizes Used Most Often in Our Trade. Gute Zange zum Crimpen von Powerpole Steckern. Habe 30-A Steckverbinder bisher immer gelötet. Mit dieser Zange ist das eine echte Alternative.

Tool works well and makes solid crimps. I'm a little fuzzy with where to place the crimp terminal within the tool but it actually doesn't seem to matter. Flush with the edge or bottomed out within the terminal holder work fine. Good tool.
