Q: Hi, i am trying to decide between this item acr 2278 and a simmilar acr 2272. they are about the same any reason to chose one over the other.

2272 is the old version, Just a zipper on top that wasn't very reliable. New one has a flap.

Q: Does it have an ectronic beacon?

This is just the bag. You could always purchase the Survival Kit that comes with the beacon.

Q: Is there any waterproof charastic to this bag? Concerned about flares getting wet .........

The bag will float but you have to unzip it to get to the contents. We bought waterproof containers to store flares and all other items inside the bag. You can buy the waterproof containers here on Amazon.

Q: Does this float once full of gear?

This bag is very buoyant it will float with up to 25 lbs of gear in it.
