(sorry...kind of a long review!) - I have been able to try all of the scents that Mountaineer carries for their beard oil, so here is my review of each! I will put them in order from my top pick to my least favorite. Ultimately, I have been happy with all of their products I've tried. The beard wash, oil and balms have been great for me, and have made my beard soft and smelling great! I haven't had any real breakouts or issues with any irritating my skin at all. I think the only time I had a very minor irritation, and one very tiny blemish, was when I tried different scented oils back to back for a couple of days, without washing my beard in between. They suggest to only wash with the beard wash up to twice a week, so I did that. I think if I didn't change the oils, I wouldn't have had an issue. Since then, no problems at all, because I wash before switching oils. FYI: I just noticed they started selling a sample pack of each of their oils on their website. It is a good price to try out all their options to see what is your favorite! The description in parenthesis is their description of the scent off their website. My thoughts are after that! #1: Timber (Mild Scent of Cedar & Fir Needle) - This is my favorite scent so far. It does have a woodsy smell, much more than the other scents. Not so much "christmas tree" needles smell, but more of the cedar side. The oil and balm both have the same scent. The Wash is quite a bit different, in my opinion. To me, it smells like a cave! It immediately makes me remember my times spelunking and touring caves! It has that limestone smell to it. I actually love it, but it may surprise people. But, it washes off immediately, so it is not long lasting at all. #2 - Coal (Sage with hints of Peppermint & Patchouli): At first, I didn't think I liked this much. But after my second time using it, I absolutely love it! The sage and patchouli are the defining scents here. However, the minute I smell it, it reminds me of working on cars with my dad when I was younger. Like a mixture of what you'd smell in a garage...hard to describe. Oil, antifreeze, grease...manly! I hope I'm not turning people off by that, but it is just the memories it brings to me when smelling it. It is actually very pleasant smelling! In fact, my wife and female coworkers always make a comment about how good it smells! I've only tried the oil so far, but am purchasing the whole kit today. #3 - Citrus & Spice (Warm Clove with hints of Orange and Grapefruit): This is definitely the more "sweet" smelling of their products, however, I would say that there is more of a spice smell, instead of the citrus. Definitely the clove stands out. It is great! This one and the Coal one are battling it out for the #2 spot for me! I do feel that this scent wears off fairly quickly, compared to the others, though. I've only tried the oil so far. #4 - Pine Tar (Strong Scent of Pine Tar (Pine Tar is effective at combating dry skin and this scent is designed for effect not fragrance)): When I purchased the Pine Tar kit, I had no idea what Pine Tar was supposed to smell like. I thought it would be like the sap from a christmas tree...but I was way wrong! Pine Tar smells like smoke. Smoke from a campsite basically. So, I was quite taken back, and hated it at first. But, it actually grew on me after a few tries. It is still my least favorite of all the scented ones, though. I will not purchase it again, but will use what I have after I warmed up to it. As the company's description states: Pine Tar is designed to combat dry skin and dandruff, and not for a fragrant effect. But, if you like smokey smells, this is right up your alley! #5 - Barefoot (Unscented): Just as it states, this oil has absolutely no scent that I can detect. It is just oil to use when you want a soft beard, but don't like smelling like a scent. So, for that, I can say that it is 100% perfect, because there truly is no smell at all. For me, I like the scented oils, so that's why this is last on my list. I toyed with putting it above the Pine Tar scent, but I would rather have a scented one over none. Overall, I love this brand of beard oils, and the scents they have! I do with the scents would last a little longer throughout the day (some do!), but it's kind of normal for them to fade as the day progresses. Good stuff, though, and the company worked with me when I had an issue with an order. Very professional and cares about their customers! Review: Well done Mountaineer Brand ! - I've been a beardsman for a very long time. I've tried a ton of beard products, and over the last few years I have even made my own beard balms and beard oils. Mountaineer Brand is one of the best company's on the market ! For people who dont like long reviews I will sumerize my opinions for you. ( All Natural beard care, larger amounts, a great price, and they do the job.) My recent purchase was the beard kit with the WV Timber scent. First thing I look at is price. Not only is the price very reasonable, but the amount of beard balm, oil and wash in the kit is awesome. Most company's only give you 1 Oz options, Mountaineer provides 2 Oz with balms and oils and 8 oz of wash. I enjoy the WV Timber scent. It's a woodsy and earthy aroma that fades pretty quickly. I would prefer the oil to be a little stronger in scent or last longer, but that is my personal preference. The balm has a more dominant eucalyptus scent which I like as well. Both do a great job at hydrating my beard and skin. The balm is a very soft butter like consistency that melts into oil and absorbs well. Try the heavy duty Balm for more of shaping quality. I purchased this as well because I have a very curly beard and this helps it stay in shape on certain days that I need it to. The heavy duty Balm has a citrus scent. The beard wash is awesome. The scent is alot like the balm but a little earthy. I usually use kirks or grandpa's pine tar, but this was a nice alternative. The biggest thing for me is the ingredients. You have probably heard it from other beardsmen. If you cant pronounce it ! Don't use it ! I must agree, I only use all natural beard care products and you have it here. I've seen some complaints about the brush in other reviews, loss of bristles or being too rough. I didn't have any problems at all. In fact I found the brush to be much softer then other beard brushes I have, and no loss of bristles. Again you get a quality all natural beard care product at a great price. In no way am I getting paid for this review. I just think Mountaineer Brand is a solid company. Cheers !

Premium Beard Care Package for a Great Price
I really like these products. I was looking for a "kit" with beard wash, oil and balm all in one, for about $30. This package met that criteria and also included a boar bristle brush. I think when you are looking at the price of beard care products, its helpful to remember that for most beards, this is probably a 2 month supply (or more). I don't have a Willie Robertson beard, but mine is probably average to just a little longer than average, and I think I will get at least 2 months of use from these items, based on my experience with other products the same size. PROS: -Quality product for a great price. You can just tell these are high quality items, from the packaging to the way the balm melts quickly and smoothly. When I use the wash (2-3x per week), the oil and the balm as part of my morning routine, man it just all comes together and makes my beard feel really soft and healthy. It also looks healthier and is easy to manage. I've also noticed that my beard seems more tame the next morning, too. I used to wake up with my beard looking like my kids' morning hair, just all wild and sticking out everywhere. Since using Mountaineer brand products, I could wake up and walk out of the house without touching my beard if I had to.... Uh, not that I would do that. I enjoy my beard care routine. -Works great. My beard is much softer than before and I've noticed the scent lasts longer than previous products I've used (more on that in a minute). As I said before, the balm melts almost instantly in my hands and is a very smooth, buttery consistency (I've had other brands that were still lumpy when they melted, no matter how much I rubbed my hands together). -Fast shipping, came as described, good follow up from the company to be sure I am happy with my purchase. CONS: -I'm not 100% sure about the scent I got (WV Coal). When I first put it on I think it smells vaguely like Vicks Vaporub (that stuff your mom used to put on you when you had a cold). However, as the day goes on, I will catch a whiff of it and as it weakens a little it smells much better. I have noticed that compared to other brands I've tried, the scent of this lasts MUCH longer. Not in an overpowering way, I can just occasionally throughout the day catch a little bit of the scent, whereas with other brands I've tried, the scent is completely gone in less than an hour. As it relates to the "vaporub" scent, I have tried a product before that smelled EXACTLY like vaporub and never smelled any better throughout the day. This isn't like that at all. I honestly can't quite pin down whether I love the scent or hate it. -I didn't like the canvas bag, it gets those little burlap fibers everywhere. This wasn't a problem for me really, I just threw the bag away since I keep this stuff in my gym bag anyway. There are options for other bags if you are willing to pay a little more, or you might just keep them in your bathroom cabinet. Everyone's routine is going to be a little different and the bag should not be a deal breaker for anyone. -This last one isn't technically a "con", more of a suggestion. I already had a boar brush; I would have really liked to have had the option to choose a nice high quality beard comb instead. Like, give the customer an option to choose between a comb or brush, I think they are about the same price. SUMMARY: At the end of the day, without question I will buy this again, however I will most likely try another scent, probably the original. This is PREMIUM beard care, and they have a lot of different options on their site. Try it out, I don't think you will be disappointed.

Great products; cheap brush
I love Mountaineer Beard products. As a native mountaineer, I take pride in buying a product grown and named after my home state; more importantly, they're quality products that are way more affordable than most. However, this kit left a little bit to be desired. Let's break it down: Beard Oil- -Great stuff. 2 oz lasts me months at a time. Makes my beard super soft and smells like the pine groves of West Virginia. Almost Heaven (pun intended). -Rating- 5/5 Beard Balm- -Again, stellar product. A little bit goes you a long way; a tin will last you a moth or two. Smells citrusy, yet masculine. Wen used with the beard oil, you smell like the world's sexiest Christmas tree. -Rating-5/5 Beard Shampoo- -This product is decent. It smells just like the beard oil. It gets your beard clean and soft; however, if you use it daily, it can dry out your skin and leave you with a pretty substantial case of beardruff. To combat this, I only use it every other day. I also condition my beard with a high quality hair conditioner about twice a week. This usually fixes it -Rating-3.5/5 Brush- -This is where this kit falls flat. the bristles of this brush are far too soft to brush out a beard of substantial length. it just kind of brushes against it. I suppose if you have a short beard, this would do the trick. But for most men who care about their beard, this ain't gonna cut it. -Rating-2/5 Overall, you should still buy this kit because its a great value for the products by themselves. just don't expect much from the brush. You're better off buying a wide-toothed wooden comb; it will work better and do a better job of distributing the oil.

A fantastic product! Would recommend!
I just received the product today, so this review is based on my initial review of the product. If things change I'll update this accordingly. I found the packaging to be fine and the burlap bag was a nice touch. The quality of the product is very evident when you use it. I think it would make a very nice gift too. The beard oil is my favorite so far. I have dry skin and only a few hours after applying it I could already tell a huge difference in my skin. It didn't feel greasy, but it wasn't dry. The scent was a worry for me. I didn't want a strong scent. This is perfect. It has a mild cedar/pine type smell. It's not overwhelming and fades fairly quickly so it's just right in my opinion. After such good results with the oil I decided to try the balm, purely for this review, since my beard isn't really long enough to need it yet. I was very impressed with that too. It left my beard feeling softer without a greasy waxy feel. The scent on it was similar to the oil. Very mild and it fades fairly quickly for a very nice balance. Not too much, just right. I haven't used the wash soap yet, but I have little doubt it will be any different from the oil and balm quality. They were both high quality and the soap is most likely the simplest to master. Soap is forgiving since it's washed out, oil and wax are not. haha The beard brush feels a little on the cheap side, but that's ok. It works fine and for the price of this package it's absolutely acceptable in quality. If you desire a more specialized or expensive beard brush purchasing that separately is likely your best option anyway. For the quality and quantity the oil and balm is worth the price of the entire package. I did notice it would be very easy to overdo it on both the oil and the wax. A little goes a long way. Which is a good thing. So that is something to watch out for. It seems like you should need more, but once you start applying it it really does go a long way. I can't compare this product to any other brands since this is my first purchase for this type of item. I don't plan on checking any other brands any time in the immediate future. I'm very pleased with Mountaineer Brand and they have by business.

All-Natural & All-Amazing
I will be buying this brand again in the future. Looking forward to trying some of their other scents. I purchased the "Citrus & Spice" scent of the Mountaineer Brand care kit and immediately when I opened the package I could tell the company really cares about their products and quality. Even through shipping everything appeared in great condition. I really appreciated their attention to detail as well, for instance the small white sticker on the beard wash shown in the picture that keeps it from accidentally opening in shipping. Below I've broken the review down so you can find what's relevant to you. Scent: The scent of Citrus and Spice is wonderful. The wash has a bit more of the spice (clove) smell than the balm and oil do but it balances out nicely when used together. I didn't find any of the products to have an overwhelming scent, but the scent does last an hour or two. Use: Wash- When using the wash I noticed that you should start out with about half the amount you think you're going to need. It lathers up so well that the tiny pea sized amount I initially used was more than enough to foam up my entire beard. As mentioned with the scent, the wash has a bit more of the clove smell, but this also creates a refreshing cooling sensation when using it. Balm and Oil - The oil was easy to work in and only required about 4 drops. The balm seemed waxy at first but quickly melted into my hands making it incredibly easy to apply while also not weighing my beard down or making it stiff as some of the thicker balms can do. Brush - There's not a lot to say about the brush other than it's comfortable to hold and use. The bristles are firm yet soft and it doesn't pull on your beard when used. Presentation and Packaging: All items are appealing to the eye making me want to display them rather than toss them in a cabinet or drawer. The tin is easy to open and bottles are easy to squeeze yet not flimsy. The oil has a plastic stopper/resister so it won't come pouring out and can simply be used like a dropper.

Great Product, befitting a Sailor: the Brush could use some work
I like reviews that are simple, so I’ll break this down to help future buyers. Scent: Love it. The scent smells manly yet not overpowering. I went with the Timber scent, which is Cedarwood, Pine, and Eucalyptus, which smells incredible. 5/5 Moisturizing: I can actually feel the change in my beard, which is a big difference between this product and others. You also don’t need to use a lot of any of it to get this effect. Amazing. 5/5 Balm: The balm goes on easy and leaves that amazing scent all day. I love when a scent lasts through the day, so this was a big point for me. Moisturizes noticeably and keeps the man-mane tame. 5/5 Oil: Scent lasts all day and the skin underneath is smooth. 5/5 Shampoo: The first time I used this I felt a drying sensation of my facial hair. I came to realize it actually was the shampoo removing residue that other shampoos left behind. After the first day, it left my facial hair feeling and smelling great. The lady complimented on it as well, and that’s a big bonus. 5/5 Brush: This is the only area that needs improvement. The brush is great in the sense that it does the job, but it is losing an unsatisfactory amount of bristles right away. I would recommend getting higher quality brush if you purchase this set. I have switched to my old straight razor brush from my days in the Navy when a straight razor shave was required (and relaxing). I’ll give this 3/5 pending review of the brush at a later point. Summary: The scent, moisture, look, and feel provided by this product is excellent. The brush could use some work but that is relatively minor. Highly recommended. 5/5

Excellent Starter Kit
I have had facial hair for the better part of 5 years and I have never had a full regiment to take care of it. I've tried oils and that was about it. I found this online and ordered it and I was not disappointed. I start with the shampoo and work it into my beard. It smells great, kind of a piney nature sent, and lathers up nicely so it feels like you really are getting your beard clean. After the shower is over I use the oil, which has a similar yet not as strong sent as the shampoo. After about a week of using the oil my beard looks more healthy and is starting to grow again. I'm not scientist, but I think it has something to do with the oil. Finally before I brush it all down I use the Beard balm. This helps smooth down the beard and shape it. Don't think that this is some thick waxy junk that will look like hair gel on your face. It melts very quickly in your hands and just gives a little more weight to the hair to let them lay down. I top all this off using the brush to "buff" the excess material off the beard. Its a great brush, not to stiff, but not to soft. A great down the middle and it really helps pull it all together. Overall if you're looking for a great starter set and you're not sure what to get I would start here. It's a great subtle scent and a solid set. Pick on up.

i've used their beard oil b4 and i have used better, however those oils were more expensive for a bottle half the size. i would say out of all the oils i've used(and that quiet a few) that this is the best value out there. which is why i choose to buy it again and even try more of their products. Now as for the balm. its the first time i've actually tried a balm. i've had my beard for quiet some time now so it doesn't really bother me much so the oil is enough and also its quiet long and wild so i need a full wax if im going to style it. however i was extremely happy with this balm! the scent is great, it makes my beard nice and soft, gives it a nice lil shine and best of all the hold is actually great! now obvi its not a full wax, but this product alone is great for taming your beard. i find myself use this daily to keep my beard in control and only having to use my wax when really really need to keep it locked in place. i was beyond satisfied with it. defs ordering both again and even looking through their other products

Can cause acne
After 7 days of use I started to have severe acne outbreak. This oil has no comedogenics but after some searching it appeared to me that one of the natural ingredients (almond oil) can cause acne. So if your skin type is vulnerable to developing acne try a products that doesn’t have almond oil
