Is this 7 count? Can the shoe lace go through this hole?

Bead lace--like plastic string you use to make kids bead bracelets-- if it's the size I have (1mm in diameter) goes through just fine. Fuzzy pipe cleaners go through as well and so does 1/8 inch satin ribbon with a little crinkling at the edges.

What kind of needles are needed for this canvas?

Most needles will fit through the holes okay, but I recommend size 24 or 26 tapestry needles and three strands of embroidery floss.

Is this correct? You use this plastic canvas in place of waste cloth, stitch your cross stitch pattern, but then how do you remove the plastic grid?

The first half is correct. You use the plastic instead of cloth, but it's holding your stitches in place so you don't/can't remove it. Think of it more as a really really rigid cloth. You don't need a ring to hold it taught, and when you're done you can leave it as-is or trim it down close to the stitches .

Does the 14 mesh plastic canvas come in sheets any larger than 8.5X11? I'm thinking this would be great for needlepoint projects.

I have never seen any other sizes in the 14 count, just the 8.5 x11, sorry
