I thought the compartment with the beans would be a pain in the neck to clean but it's really not. It's just a very few minutes to clean out. Don't just rinse it. Use soap & water. I love it. I put on the timer for the mornings. However, the grinder scared the crap out of me the first few days because its loud when the house is so quiet in the morning! Lol. Enjoy!!

**Q: what is the correct way to open the door to get to the coffee filter? When I pull, I have to pull hard and it sounds like I am going to bust it.**
A: you are correct if you pull it you will bust it! On the Cuisinart DGB-550BK Grind-Brew coffee maker it's better to push the button on the left lateral flank and it will pop open.

**Q: Can you remove the grinder for cleaning? My previous coffeemaker did this and it's a great feature to keep things clean & tasting wonderfully.**
A: Grinder cup, grinder lid, brew basket,  coffee pot can all go in dishwasher top rack. I bought an extra set of all on Cuisinart website. Now I always have a clean set with the previous day dishwasher load. A little pricey but the fresh ground coffee is so much better.

**Q: 4hr warming pad?**
A: You can adjust from 1 to 4 hour hotplate.  Default is 2 hours.

**Q: Can the coarseness of the bean grinder be adjusted from fine to coarse or is it preset at one level?**
A: No, not on this model. It puts out a pretty fine grind though.

This is our fourth Cuisinart grind and brew. The quality of the product has deteriorated over the years. No longer sturdy carafe and lid. Makes decent coffee. Difficult to clean and it's hard to figure out the whole process. Even when not brewing coffee you must have everything in place or it beeps constantly. Will see how long it lasts.
