Unorthodox, sure, but amazing nonetheless!
They’re simply not your average HiFi or “audiophile” reference pair of headphones. They’re quite bassy and the mids are admittedly recessed, but it makes for quite an interesting listen. For starters, these soundstage very wide to my ears, more than a DT 1990 with the Analytical pads. Their imaging is A+ when an instrument is panning in a mix but for more static tracks it can get a little obscured. Slam is very good too though surprisingly not the best, I guess too much mid bass softens this quality a bit though I would still say it is punchier than average and only falls short compared to something like the Focal Clear. Although their sound signature is warm and dark these still manage to resolve detail as well as any other pair I’ve tried in this price range, details are a little obscure but can be brought forward in high definition by some EQ. Instrument separation is definitely better than the rest of the Beyerdynamic line, which is quite a feat considering how bassy they are but something like a Sundara or 660S perform better in this area but those are reference cans where these are what I'd call certified Hifi bass cannons. Again, sure they are colored, but people act like since they’re not tuned to the Harman preference target they can’t be enjoyable. On top of what I’ve already mentioned, these are built like the most luxurious tank I’ve ever held in my hands. Delicate crafting, and choice of materials, akin to a Meze Empyrean, yet built tougher than an Audeze LCD-X. The case included matches their build and style perfectly.

happy with purchase
I purchased these headphones after my positive experience with the dt1990 pro and amiron wireless copper headphones...i was on a 'buying spree' last year during the pandemic. I was a bit concerned after reading some (many) of the negative reviews comparing them to the previoius generations of these headphones with the exception of "audiophiliac youtube".... I'm not a 'bass' person so i was depending on the ability to return them buying through Amazon. They are more bass-y then my dt1990 pro's and about the same as the amiron wireless copper. I use them with a Fiio k9pro dac/amp. I'm on the Tidal three month trial and the MQA files play a bit on the bass-y side but not terribly so. Then I changed the earpads to the Dekoni Elite Fenestrated Sheepskin pads that i use with the dt1990 pro's. Amazing! The soundstage, already wide, is wider still and deeper; bass is moderated enough for me to enjoy; instrument placement is very clear and specific...it is like sitting in the 7th row, orchestra, center. I was surprised at how much earpads can affect the audio......Fortunately, I purchased the T1's before the price went up, too...now i have to decide if i want to try them with a balanced cable! UPDATE--MARCH 26, 2022-Just tried them with a balanced cable (www.audiophileninja.com). Amazing. Soundstage even wider, now also deeper, vocals brought forward and sound cleaner and volume added. Balanced cables do make a difference. Using with Fiio K9Pro (AKM version).

Only worth 800 if the HD660S2 did not exist
For the price and the hype I was trying really hard not to acknowledge that my HD660S2 might just sound better to me. But I gave up and although yes they sound good, there are better cost effective options.

Already had one and bought a second
For my taste (read the reviews) these are the best headphones I have heard, and by far the most comfortable for listening for more than a half hour.. Expensive, but worth it if you appreciate audiophile quality. I bought a second pair so that my partner and I can listen without getting a call from our downstairs neighbor... or for solo listening in the middle of the night while she's (partner) is in bed.

tested against sennheiser hd660
i tested these on a schiit valhalla2 against a set of sennheiser hd660 cans.... the bass would muddy up the rest of the audio... vocals distorted on heavy bass at higher volumes... i could play, for example, "this is america" by childish gambino and the bass would distort the vocals significantly..... the sennheiser hd660 do not have this problem.... whats up with that beyerdynamics? i thought the v3 t1's were supposed to be best in class? losing out to a set of 400 dollar headphones???

These sound …. Bad
Sound is subjective, of course. However- I’ve never put on a pair of headphones and have said “WTF” out loud before. These caught me so off guard. I really like the Beyerdynamic dt1990s. One of my favorites of the several headphones I own. These were reeeeeeealy sharp and unpleasant on the Ss and Ts for me. It made them really hard to miss with anything you listened to or were watching. Musically, these were awful. I didn’t enjoy listening to anything in them at all. Comfort wise, they were great. Very comfortable- a little loose but overall, not bad. For reference, I own other headphones like focal clear MGs, HD650s, and hifiman arya stealths. I much preferred all those to these. Needless to say, I returned these.

good bass for a open-backed
You might like this one if you are below 40 and mostly listen to pop/rock/metal/rap and don't use dedicated dac&.

After reading through all reviews and watching most video reviews, it was a bit of a gamble to go for this after knowing that Beyerdynamic certainly tuned the 3rd Gen T1 so differently to the previous generations that most reviewers felt it should have been given an entirely different model name altogether! Suffice to say, at the flash sale price of ₹54k, it was a no brainer for me as I was already on the lookout for a high end headphone to supplement my Sony MV1 headphones for home & office use that themselves are a huge value for money. And thankfully, all apprehensions were laid to rest soon after putting on the headphones and music started playing through them (played via desktop dac Shanling EH2 and headphone amps Aune S17 Evo). Even directly out of my DAP the Hiby R4 the sound was very good indeed, and the T1 does not need too much power to sound loud, being 32 ohms in impedance only. Folks who like a slight v-shaped sound, but mostly warmish or Dark-ish tonalities would definitely find the T1 3rd gen perfect for them. Soundstage is pretty great as well. Being open backed headphones they are perfect for desktop/ stationary listening at home/ office/ hotels etc. But the only downside I would say is that at their full MRP, there are better deals to be had nowadays. But listening preferences are personal and I advise anyone looking to get these headphones (or any headphone for that matter) to try and listen to them first; this would be the best advise to follow. As for myself, am perfectly happy and this can be easily considered an endgame headphone. Any real sonic upgrade from this level should take us upwards of $1500 or $2000 easily. Cheers
