Does anyone know if these washcloths are made with the exact same material as the Utopia bar mop towels? (Looking for excellent cleaning cloths.)

I"m not familiar with the mop. As for the Utopia washcloths,EXCELLENT....cleaning cloth.I've used them over and over with great results. You can't go wrong with good Quailty!

Are these soft? Using to wipe down daughter after meals... she's a toddler

Due to nerve damage from a GSW to the neck, — 6 years back now — I use from 4 to 8 of the washcloths a day. Often a full laundry load each week. So about are they soft. . .

The washcloths and towels in rehab were almost like sandpaper. When I was allowed home I fixed that.

To make sure your cotton washcloths are soft there are 2 important things to do; 
1st put your fabric softener (if you use it) in the was cycle instead of the rinse, this helps to keep them absorbent; 
2nd always use a second rinse cycle, making  sure that all of the detergent etc. is rinsed out.

They will slowly lose their initial fluff, (clean you lint trap/screen every cleaning) but they are cheap enough that when they do and are no longer soft enough for the baby and my face and eyes, they remain great for general clean up.

Is this good for drying dishes?

I keep a stack in a bin next to my kitchen sink to reduce my reliance on paper towels. I use them to dry my dishes, wipe my hands after washing and wipe down any spills. They’re small enough that you can use them once and not feel bad but thick enough to absorb a lot of moisture.

I was thinking about buying these in place of paper towels for cleaning and random spills around the house. Would they work well for this?

Absolutely, but if you have a sewing machine I would recommend going a step further and getting their  Kitchen Bar Mops towels. They come in a pack of 12 and are 16"x19"; cutting them into quarters and hemming the two raw edges (nothing fancy; I just used a basic zig-zag stitch) yields 48 towels roughly 7"x9" that are EXACTLY the right size and absorbency and take up less space than these washcloth sized ones, which we found were more fabric than needed for many of the random household uses.  We use about 4 a day (informal napkins, hot pads, etc. as well as cleaning) and keep them in an attractive basket.  Like others have mentioned, our paper towel usage has dropped to almost zero.
