It's amazing how much processing power the latest ultra-light notebooks, small form factor computers, and all-in-one desktop computers pack in such small and thin enclosures. But, thinness comes with a cost-there's nowhere for you to install PCIE cards for the additional connectivity and processing capabilities beyond what's offered by a computer's standard ports. Although thin mac and windows computers with thunder bolt 3 ports offer processing power to spare, for many, such as pros in the creative fields, onboard processing power alone is not enough. Fortunately, your choices are not limited to desktop workstations-think external. With the echo express se I - thunder bolt 3 edition, sonnet has created a solution that enables you to connect a single PCIE card outside of your computer. This compact desktop thunder bolt 3-to-PCIE card expansion system supports one professional video capture, audio interface, 6gb or 12gb SAS or SATA host bus adapter, 8gb or 16gb fiber channel, 10gb or 40gb Ethernet, or raid controller PCIE card, and connects it to your computer through a thin cable. The echo express se I - thunderbolt 3 edition features 40 gbps thunderbolt 3, which offers double the PCIE bandwidth and connectivity of thunderbolt 2, and yields up to 2750 mb/s of bandwidth, enabling it to support 4k video capture and processing cards at high frame rates, and 16gb fc cards and dual-port 10 Gbe cards at full performance(2)(3). ## Features - Connects a PCIe Expansion Card to Computers Without Slots—Use high-performance PCIe cards with any Mac or Windows PC with a Thunderbolt 3 port - One PCIe 3.0 x8 Slot—Supports one half-length+ (up to 7.75 inches long), full-height, single-width PCIe card (plus one daughter card) - 40Gbps Thunderbolt 3 Interface—Offers 2750 MB/s of PCIe bandwidth, doubling the performance of Thunderbolt 2;Energy Saver Mode - Full Performance In a Small and Light Design—Takes up little space on the desktop, but large enough to support nearly every Thunderbolt-compatible PCIe card, at full performance - Two Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) Ports—One port reserved for connection to the computer; second port supports daisy-chaining of up to five additional Thunderbolt devices to your computer, attaching a single USB peripheral device, or connecting up to two 4K displays or one 5K display ## Technical Specifications | Specification | Value | |---------------|-------| | ASIN | B01MTP2XMZ | | Antenna Location | Professional Video Editing, Professional Audio Production, Data Transfer and Management, High-Performance Computing | | Box Contents | Sonnet Echo Express SE I 1-Slot Thunderbolt 3 to Full-Height/Half-Length PCIe Ca | | Brand Name | SoNNeT | | Case Type | Desktop | | Colour | black | | Compatible Devices | Personal Computer | | Cooling Method | Air | | Country of Origin | USA | | Customer Reviews | 4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars (161) | | Enclosure Material | Aluminium | | Global Trade Identification Number | 00732311012051 | | Hard Disk Form Factor | 3.5 Inches | | Item Dimensions D x W x H | 8.9D x 14.2W x 8.9H Centimeters | | Item Weight | 2.6 Pounds | | Manufacturer | SONNETTECH | | Manufacturer Part Number | ECHO-EXP-SE1-T3 | | Model Name | ECHO-EXP-SE1-T3 | | Model Number | ECHO-EXP-SE1-T3 | | Number of Fans | 5 | | Number of Items | 1 | | Other Special Features of the Product | Thunderbolt 3 Interface, PCIe Card and Daughter Card Support, Compact and Lightweight Design | | Power Supply Mounting Type | Bottom Mount | | Supported Motherboard | Mini ITX | | Total Expansion Slots Quantity | 1 | | Total USB Ports | 3 | | UPC | 732311012051 | | Unit Count | 1.0 Count | ## Product Details - **Brand:** SoNNeT - **Case Type:** Desktop - **Colour:** black - **Motherboard Compatibility:** Mini ITX ## Images ![Sonnet Echo Express SE1 Thunderbolt 3 Expansion Chassis (ECHO-EXP-SE1-T3) - Image 1](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/21ZvVEeOLPL.jpg) ![Sonnet Echo Express SE1 Thunderbolt 3 Expansion Chassis (ECHO-EXP-SE1-T3) - Image 2](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/51xsIQDC7-L.jpg) ![Sonnet Echo Express SE1 Thunderbolt 3 Expansion Chassis (ECHO-EXP-SE1-T3) - Image 3](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/31WfJMP3tyL.jpg) ![Sonnet Echo Express SE1 Thunderbolt 3 Expansion Chassis (ECHO-EXP-SE1-T3) - Image 4](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/41kqTnmkg+L.jpg) ![Sonnet Echo Express SE1 Thunderbolt 3 Expansion Chassis (ECHO-EXP-SE1-T3) - Image 5](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/215A4o-48BL.jpg) ## Questions & Answers **Q: Does this work with the razer blade if I use a 1050ti?** A: This product is not designed to work with graphic cards because it does not have adequate power. Our product for graphic cards is our eGFX Breakaway Box **Q: How much power (in wattage) is being sent to the pci-e lane?** A: The SEL and SE I both send the PCIe specification to the x4 PCIe 2.0 slot: 25 Watts. **Q: Is a Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) cable included?** A: Yes, all of Sonnet's Thunderbolt 3 and Thunderbolt 4 products include a Thunderbolt cable. **Q: Would this work if i used a thunderbolt 3 to 2 adapter (i have a macbook pro 2013)and stuck a graphics card in it** A: This would not be a very good product to use a graphics card with and especially if you are going to adapt it to thunderbolt 2. I do not believe that this is a fast enough port for modern day graphics cards.
