For how long can it run before the batteries hve to be replaced?

I measured mine and it's pulling about 300 microamps from a fresh battery at 1.6 volts. A good quality AA has around 2500mAh, so this would yeild around 8,333 hours of runtime (347 days). However this assumes the clock can use all the batteries capacity down to well below 1 volt. Best bet is always to use a good quality alkaline and you should see around a year.

Description says not use alkaline batteries but aren’t all AA batteries alkaline ? Which to use then ?

There are rechargeable NiMH ones - that said I’ve an alkaline one in (Energiser Max) without any problem. I think the silent movement draws more current from the battery, which could indicate why a ‘max’ battery works ok
