Lights worked initially but now they just flash once when plugged in any usb and then don't work. Any explaination on why this is?

I had this problem. Check the amp's output on the plug (it's usually engraved somewhere on it e.g. 1A) 2 amps is required to power these lights. You may be using a plug with not enough amps output, hence the problem you have. I changed my plug to a 2 amp output and it works perfectly fine. Hope this helps.

I suppose it depends if it’s mounted on the wall and how close it is to the wall. I have a Samsung on my wall with usb and hdmi that point out to the right hand side. The usb on the lights isn’t that big so I would think it would be ok
