It happens without me touching the switch. Is there a remedy or needs to be returned?** A: I have the same exact problem. Upon removing the lamp section from the gooseneck you can see that the plastic near the electrical contacts is melted. Applying pressure on the lamp when assembled seems to fix the issue, but left alone gravity is too much for the connection to be stable, causing the overheating/melting/short out. It sucks because I loved this light when it worked. **Q: How tall is the stiff part of the arm before it can start to flex?** A: The whole gooseneck is not bendable. The bottom is stiff and is 16". The top portion bends. **Q: How much space do I need from my desk to the wall for clearance?** A: If your desk top is flat and level, you need not leave any clearance between the desk and wall, however, since my drawing table is slanted, I would need probably 1 1/2 to 2 inches and that causes the bottom of the clamp to slant as well. It's a great lamp, and the best lighting I've ever had. **Q: Can the mounting bracket be removed so there is just the tubular stem so as to mount it to monitor stand, currently the mounting clamp is in the way** A: Yes, you have to scrap off the protective pad first, then under the pad there are 6 screws holding the base to the tubular bar. If you decide later to use the clamp again you will just have to get an adhesive pad to replace the one you scratched off to access the screws. I did it the other day, took 10 minutes max.
