The handles are made of some type of composite material, resembling plastic but which could be almost anything in this day and age.. at least they are water proof anyway, so should last a long while. The bristles are nice and soft, a little long perhaps but this is what makes them great for cutting in. They are also easily cleaned which is a bonus.
