Had a steering wheel vibration in my 1999 4Runner Limited 2WD. Got under the truck and started removing the old bushings it was pretty obvious why: they were all shot, and some parts were even missing. Installing this kit is pretty straightforward, and the directions are okay. There's a really good how-to on youtube to help with the install if you want to see what you are getting yourself in for. Be warned: you will need to rent some tools to get this done. Also, the bolts are pretty large (like 21 or 23 mm) so you will need to either buy new some sockets or borrow some from a friend if you don't have the sizes. Using the video I mentioned will show you exactly what you need and when you need it. I did need to rent a ball joint press from a local auto parts store. There's one OEM bushing in particular that is stupid hard to remove, and the only way I was able to was with the ball joint press (also recommended in the video). I did not remove my sway bar for this, so it is do-able with the sway bar in place. However, if you are also replacing the bushings on your sway bar, then remove the sway bar to make some additional room and put it back on AFTER you finish the steering rack. Once done, the steering wheel feels nice and firm again, no vibrations at all. What an improvement! Also of note: some places listed this part as NOT fitting my 99 4Runner. This is incorrect. This part DOES fit. In fact, I'd wager it would fit all 3rd Gen 4Runners since I doubt Toyota would change it's steering rack. However, *I do NOT know for sure!* So you still need to check your application. I can, however, confirm that is DOES fit a 99 4Runner. Review: Well worth the money - Installed this kit on my 2004 tacoma. My steering seemed really loose and upon jacking the front end up and moving the wheel back and fourth by hand it was pretty obvious the problem was the whole steering rack moved side to side a pretty considerable amount because the stock rubber bushings were shot. I installed this kit a few months ago and noticed the difference immediately. Steering was much smoother, more responsive and I no longer felt like the truck was trying to run itself into a ditch when driving on bumpy roads. It was relatively easy to install. there are plenty of how to guides online you can read before hand. I put grease on all the bushings when I installed them and have not yet heard any noises but it as only been a few months. Kit comes with some instructions but I did not follow them much.
