Blackwing sells it on their site for $19.95.** A: Whoa! I bought this a few days ago here for $19.95 and now it’s marked to $37! Remember that different vendors sell things here for various prices. Maybe I got the only one for twenty bucks til they resupply...or something. In the meantime the folks that are selling them for twice the price are the only one available. Just a guess. **Q: does the sharpener come with extra blades since Amazon doesn’t seem to carry them?** A: It didn't come with an extra blade. I'm going to resharpen this one when the time comes, but for now, it's still cutting really well. The blade is stamped with a 'B', so I imagine that Blackwing will sell replacement blades directly. **Q: Are replacement blades available?** A: Blades are available from Blackwing directly, but a set of 3 blades plus shipping costs almost as much as the sharpener. The original blade didn’t last long. After a few months, the points break off every time I attempt to sharpen the pencils. Going to look at other sharpeners. **Q: How does this sharpener work on Prismacolor pencils?** A: Don't know. But there is this: sharp blades make all the difference. If you're goint to use a hand-sharpner, also buy some KUM standard blades, three to a pack, made in Germany. Also, if you're not geting the point you want, check to see if a broken lead is keeping the pencil from going all the way into the sharpner. Finally, the Blackwing sharpner is milled aluminum and resists wear. I can note the wear on my plastic-head sharpners. As far as pencil sharpening, I look for a solid, unbroken shaving (in addition to a sharpened pencil point). This one is extremely choppy (resulting in minced bits of shavings). The blade is extraordinarily dull and blunt...like butter knife blunt. The sharpening pencil process takes WAY more than the estimated sharpening turns of 5 to 15 rotations (per Blackwing), as in 85+ to 100+ rotations (?!) This is the case with new unsharpened Blackwing pencils and previously sharpened (but needed a sharper point) pencils. Additionally, the sharpener has to be opened, and the internal sharpener blade must be blown out (compressed air duster spray) at least every 10 - 15 turns to dislodge the excess wood and graphite bits that accumulate and stick to the blade. So, what's up with this sharpener? I can't tell if it is previously owned and returned merchandise (although it wasn't identified as "open-box" or returned on the Blackwing Amazon store listing), defective, or what. The one thing Amazon has going for it is super-fast shipping and easy returns, so it isn't like I can't initiate a return; drop it at the local UPS store and obtain a refund. But the fact that the return process is simple isn't the point. ✎﹏﹏﹏﹏ I've used 99¢ pencil sharpeners that created a better point than this Blackwing sharpener. I reached out to Blackwing support regarding the total failure of their one-step (aka 100 rotations sharpener), and they offered to replace the malfunctioning unit, but the problem isn't just its inability to sharpen (defective blade). The mandatory and constant blowout of the internal blade area (every few turns) to release the wood and graphite obstruction is too much work. I'm going with the Raymay Fujii KUM Masterpiece Pencil Sharpener. The Blackwing one-step is cool looking. Love the weight and heft of the pressed aluminum exterior and matte black powder-coated surface.
