Big Agnes Clearview Air Pad Mummy Sleeping Pad

Got this for a section on the AT and it performed like a champ. Light weight and sooooo much more comfortable than any self inflate pad I've ever used. Now I use it in my camper truck and it sure does get cold - make sure your bag / liner combo is over rated for your night temps since this has no insulation. (I'd recommend synthetic bags over down for use with this pad for the same reason.) IT does seem very delicate, and while I haven't had a hole in it yet I do wish it came with a repair patch or kit (it does not - heard the platypus patches work but I haven't been able to find those anywhere) and I do use a 3mil groundcloth under it whether I'm in truck, tent, or shelter.

I got this sleeping pad to add to my Ultralight backpacking kit. The one area I will splurge on comfort and give up a little weight is on my sleeping system. This pad is great for backpacking either used in a tent or a Bivy. To me it is heavy at 11 oz, but to your average joe or scout this will feel super light (I am now a Gram Weenie). All the Big Agnes pads are waaaaaay more comfortable than the Self inflating pads made by (Insert any pad maker name here)... I own this short mummy clearview and the Air Core full sized pad. For car camping nothing beats a big Agnes sleeping bag and air pad. It's like sleeping at home, you can roll around and you never fall off the pad and the sleeping bag doesn't wrap around you. Mind you, Big Agnes is a little liberal with their bag temperature ratings. I have a hybrid Down/Synthetic BA bag rated 30 degrees, but by about 40 I am freezing my Tuukis off, even with long johns on. So a good rule of thumb for most sleeping bags (except high-end bags like Nunatak, Western Mountaineering, Mont-Bell, Seirra Designs, Mountain Hardwear, Marmot, feathered friends or Valandre) is to add 10 degrees to the bag and that is the temperature you will be comfortable at (Not just survive in. EXCEPT SlumberJack, add 15 to 20 degrees for those cheap things.

What else can I say? The first night I used this was on a clean hardwood floor. I woke up at 3am and there was no air in the pad. Judging from all the positive reviews, I believe I may have a dud!

This pad has an R value of 1. Used with a 35* bag you'll be lucky to get to 35* before you are cold. It is very light but just doesn't provide any insulation. It is comfortable and holds air well (at least it does this well, unlike some other manufacuters pads). If you buy this for use in shoulder seasons, bring along a blue pad to go under it and you'll be a little more comfortable and I'd also recommend extra down clothing as in pants and jacket and also a fleece cap or balaclava. Good price but just realize that this is very much intended as a summer pad.

Very light weight. Not good for cold weather. Works great for the summer.

We'll see about durability... Holds my 265lb without leaking all night.

I bought this pad two years ago before going on a particularly arduous hiking/climbing trip in Colorado and New Mexico. I have back problems, so it's critical that I be afforded a few inches of space off of the hard ground if my time outdoors is to be productive. I also have asthma, so I was concerned about what it would take to inflate the thing every night as we trekked across the countryside. It not only allowed me to sleep comfortably (on my side!!!), but only took a couple minutes to inflate. Since then, I've used it time and again. It fits perfectly over my mummy bag and it easily deflates (once you get the hang of it - you have to start from the sides instead of the bottom or top) and rolls up to be about as big as a liter of water. I will caution - this is not the greatest pad for sleeping on bare ground. It did get a hole at some point; I'm not clear as to when or where, and my cats may very well be to blame. All I had to do was inflate it and stick it in the tub to find the hole and slapped a patch on it. I've used it at least a half dozen times since without any issues. I am a pretty short person (right about 60") and the 60" pad works perfectly. I highly recommend this pad.

THE SKINNY: After throwing lots of money to the wind with self-inflating mats, I decided to try this one. The best ever. It's light, provides two and a half inches of padding and compresses into a tiny, tiny space. Also, being elevated off the ground, allows you to stay warmer, meaning you can pack a lighter sleeping bag. The ridges not only provide comfortable compression, but also lessen the internal volume of the pad, meaning it doesn't take very many breaths to fill. It usually take me about 30 seconds to casually inflate. Also, it has a blow-off valve to prevent it from popping. It simply leaks a little bit of air if you flop on it too hard. (I weigh 220 lbs, and it only does that if I'm not thinking and just flop down to go to sleep). PROS: Super lightweight (10 oz.) Comfortable CONS: If you toss and turn a lot, it is a bit noisy. BOTTOM LINE: Recommendable to anyone looking for comfortable sleep hiking or camping.
