I actually thought the cutting edges on the side were overkill when I was shopping but they really come in handy. When you're cutting a pizza with a lot of toppings sometimes the rolling blade pushes toppings around. So if you start with the side cutter and then finish with the roller you get a perfect slide every time. I was really impressed.
