Each arm of the crossbar/holder is 17.75 inches long. With the knob of the rod tucked into the end of one of the crossbars, the width is 18.5 inches.

How is function compared to spring coil type snake?

The spring coil type will wind itself up in a ball of mess in the pipe when it get stuck. This will not do that at all. I have found this to be more user friendly and quicker to get plug free and water flowing. I am now looking for the one that will do the sink drains. My dad had one when I was living at home before I moved out and started my own family in the 80's.

what is the size of the Spear-Point roller ball head on this 1/2 x 1/16 x 25' tool and what size pipe is it best in

The snake is somewhere in my garage along with other "miscellaneous" stuff. I used it on a thin-walled plastic sewer pipe about 6" in diameter before finally hiring a plumber to replace the 50' with a heavier gauge pipe and have not needed the snake since.

Can I use this in a 11/2" drain pipe? Thanks
