Question 1

The pipe coming out of the wall is 1 1/2 inches and the new drain pipe is 1 1/4 inches. Will this help with that problem?

Accepted Answer

Thank you for your question. To clarify, the pipe coming out of the wall is 1 1/2", and the sink tailpiece ( tube right below the sink drain") is 1 1/4" ? If so, then yes, this Snappy Trap will work without a problem. The flexible hose which connects to the drain pipe adapter or coupling included in case there is no adapter is 1 1/2" in diameter, and there is an included 1 1/4" washer to connect either the extension piece included or P-trap to the 1 1/4" tailpiece.

Question 2

Do you need teflon tape for installation?

Accepted Answer

Dear Customer - No, you do not need Teflon tape for installation. Thanks!

Question 3

I’m going to a smaller vanity. How many inches would this allow me to move my sink over?

Accepted Answer

Thank you for contacting us. The Snappy Trap can reach up to 8" vertical distance and 13" horizontal distance from the sink outlet to the wall drain pipe.

Question 4

Can I use just the j-trap (+ slipnut + 2 washers) to mate to 1-1/4 metal tailpiece and 1-1/4 metal drain pipe elbow? Is j-trap standard dimensions?

Accepted Answer

It looks like the j-trap in this kit has a threaded outlet, not a captive nut. Check whether your existing j-trap has a captive nut that mates with threads on the inlet end of the metal drain elbow. If so, I think you should find a j-trap that has a captive nut, so it can mate with the elbow's threads. Alternatively, you might be able to use this kit if you also replace the metal elbow with the corresponding piece in this kit (and possibly also replace the horizontal metal drain pipe section to which the outlet end of the metal elbow is attached).
If you buy a metal j-trap (with a captive nut) look for one that has a thick gauge. The thicker the metal, the longer it will last. The smaller the gauge number, the thicker. 20 gauge is thicker than 22 gauge, etc. You might be able to find 17 gauge, although that's more common for 1-1/2" (kitchen) traps than for 1-1/4" (bathroom) traps.
It's a shame this kit wasn't designed with pvc j-trap that has a captive nut, and threads on the end of the pvc arm to which the captive nut would mate. That design would match the old plumbing standard and make the kit more flexible. But perhaps it's not possible to engineer a captive nut using pvc. Metal can be reshaped. With a metal j-trap, the manufacturer can slide the captive nut on at one end of the j-trap and then reshape (flare) that end to its final shape that has an outer diameter larger than the nut's inner diameter, which makes the nut non-removable ("captive" or "captured"). But pvc presumably can't be reshaped, and gluing on a collar at the end of the pvc j-trap (after sliding the nut onto the trap) would add an extra manufacturing step. (Also, if for some reason the collar must be glued to the outlet end of the j-trap, rather than to the inlet end, the glue would be under stress when the nut is tightened.)
