Required for 5/8" hinges with Porter-Cable template kit
Unfortunately Porter Cable doesn't include this in their 59381 template kit for 5/8" radius hinges. I'd argue this is far more common than the 1/4" radius included in that kit. So, it's required to buy this with a 1-1/4" bit, and it works.I should mention that it works after spending some time trying to mount this and the bit on the router. Your mileage may vary, but I'm using a Bosch Colt trim router with the plunge base for this. This isn't the fault of the guide, but the 1-1/4" bit is too wide to plunge through it. So, you have to install the plunge base and guide on the router, and then feed the shank of the bit through to the router. Then you have to tighten it with everything in the way with no clearance while also trying to hold the shaft rotation stop button down.

Hold your jaw just right - but a life saver
I needed this specialty bushing guide to handle the bit for the large radius hinges I was using in a large door order. The cutter head for this sized bushing is such that it will not fit through the bushing so you have to Attach the collet to the base, slide the shaft of the router bit through the bushing and tighten the bit with everything in the way. This is not the fault of the bushing. It is just the way it works with the large bit. There are other bits and bushings out there, but this set up in the specific application I had was the only way. This bushing saved the job.

The guide is exactly what it says it is, but if you use this with a 1 1/4 mortising bit, make sure your template is oversized.
The template guide, while described exactly, is a bit large to use with a Bosch Butt Hinge Template Jig for mortising door hinges. There is too much gap when using a 1 1/4 mortising bit to get a 5/8 radius. Okay if your template took this large gap into account. I had to buy a Bosch 1 3/8 template to get the proper 1/16 inch gap with a 1 1/4 mortising bit. The template wall on this is pretty darn thick!
